A dog once known as “Fat Vincent” is now sporting a new physique, a new nickname, and a new leash on life.

When the amazing team at K-9 Angels Rescue of Houston, Texas first encountered a morbidly obese dachshund, they started calling him “Fat Vincent” because the 7-year-old dog’s stomach was so gigantic that it dragged on the ground when he walked.

According to the Facebook page Skinny Vinnie of K-9 Angels Rescue Houston, the dog was surrendered to him after his elderly owner who loved to feed him fast food. The Angels decided to take a chance on the 38 pound dog, in hopes to help him lose weight.

“Besides terribly high cholesterol and BMI, Vincent’s back sloped downward in the middle and our vet was fearful that one false move would cause his back to break,” Melissa Anderson of K-9 Angels Rescue told AOL.

The dog’s body weight was 60% fat, but now thanks to a healthier diet and exercise, he’s been dubbed “Skinny Vinnie”, weighing a more lean 17.5 pounds.

The lovable pooch has since become a social media star, with fans following and getting inspired by his long walks, water aerobics and journey towards health.
