Being a bird that thinks it’s a fish is problematic enough…however, that’s the life of a penguin. But what happens when a penguin, an animal that is supposed to love the water more than any bird should, develops of fear of it?
Well, that is the life of Charlotte, a baby penguin who was hatched at Birdland Park & Gardens in Gloucestershire, England. This bird may think she’s a fish, but she doesn’t act like it. For that reason, zookeepers who have been keeping a watchful eye on her have started giving the pathetically frightened animals swimming lessons.
Ever since hatching the zoo and then being hand-reared in that same environment, Charlotte has been afraid of the water. Head keeper Alistair Keen said, “initially Charlotte was absolutely terrified at the prospect of getting her feathers wet.”
“At first it didn’t seem like she was ever going to get the hang of it, she certainly hasn’t taken to it like a duck to water.”
But things are looking up for this King penguin. Take a look at the video below to see how her progress is coming along, and don’t forget to SHARE this humorous story with friends and family!
