When Holly Wright saw her 14-year-old daughter Lexi walk off the school bus in tears, she knew something was wrong.
Lexi told her mom that the bus driver stopped the bus in the middle of its route to yell at her for sitting on her knees while braiding her friend’s hair.
Holly Wright wrote a post about the incident on her Facebook, saying,
“The woman, in anger, continued to tear Lexi down with unnecessary words and her delivery was completely uncalled for.”
Lexi was embarrassed and crying, and while the driver should have asked her to sit in her seat for safety reasons, Wright believes that stopping the bus to yell at her may have been a bit much. After Lexi calmed down, Holly said her and her daughter discussed the dangers of sitting on her knees, and she asked her daughter a question:
“Lexi, want to do something radical?”
“Sure!” Lexi replied.
“How about you respond to your bus driver in LOVE because she clearly was lacking it today! All she knew was anger and frustration. How about tomorrow morning you present her with freshly baked cookies and a hug!”
Lexi quickly replied, “Can we bake the cookies now?”
That next morning Lexi handed the cookies to her bus driver. Holly wrote on Facebook,
“The woman sat there in disbelief because she knew in her heart of heart’s that she over reacted in pure anger and foolishness. Yet Lexi humbly came to her, in love.”
She continued, “Trust me when I say, those cookies spoke a million words! The bus driver even asked Lexi, ‘Can I have a hug too?’…And just like that, PEACE entered in!”
Mom finished off her post with this:
“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals (of conviction) on his head, and the LORD will reward you.”
