Sometimes terrible things happen to really good people.
7-year-old Vinny Desautels is a little boy who selflessly grew out his hair for 2 years so he could donate it to cancer patients.
“I want to help people so they don’t have to go to the doctors to fight cancer,” he said.
Despite being teased by his peers at school for his hair growth, Vinny managed to grow it to 13 inches, and lovingly donated it to Wigs for Kids With Cancer.
“During that time he was mistaken for a girl many times, but Vinny took it like a champ and was like, ‘Nah, I’m a boy,” Vinny’s dad, Jason Desautels, told Fox 40. After finally cutting off his hair, after he let it grow for so long, the cruelest twist of fate happened and Vinny learned he had stage four cancer.
“My eye was getting heavy,” Vinny said.
Vinny’s dad explains, Basically, what they found is that he has a significant growth on his hip and in the bone around the eye and behind the nose and on the cheek on the right side.” Now, 7-year-old Vinny is trying to make sense of his diagnosis.
“Well, the veins from my hip are traveling to another place right behind my eye and it’s making it squinty,” Vinny said.
Although it is difficult for Vinny to see, he has the support of his family and friends and also an entire community who praises him for being so selfless.
In a post on Facebook, mom Sue Desautels said: “We were heartbroken to get this diagnosis. With that said, I would like to humbly thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement.”She added: ‘We are a close family, and we are fighting this together.”
