While most civilians tend to think the most difficult part for soldiers on deployment is putting their lives on the line, many military men and women will argue that the toughest part is being far away from their loved ones.
That’s exactly why U.S. Army soldier Andy Adams was ready to get home and start a family with his wife, Ashley, after serving tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
Unfortunately, like so many couples, the Adams didn’t immediately conceive. “We had trouble getting pregnant, so the doctor prescribed a fertility drug,” Ashley Adams told Denver 7.
However, God works in mysterious ways and in a few short weeks, their wish was granted. “I kind of had a feeling that maybe there were twins,” said Adams. However, nothing could prepare the military husband and wife for their first trip to the doctor, when they were told by doctors that it wasn’t just one or two babies, that they could expect triplets.
“Then the doctor said, ‘Wait, It’s not triplets. There are four babies here,'” said Ashley Adams. “Andy’s face went white. He was just standing there, looking at the screen. I thought maybe he was going to hit the floor.”
Andy Adams said it took a while for the shock of becoming a father to four newborns to sink in. “My ideal number was two when we first met, and she said 10. So, I guess we met in the middle,” the dad-to-be joked.
