When journalist Stacey Slaughter held the pint-sized cherub in her hand, she thought she was going to cry, not because it was sad but because it was too cute.
The art critic came across sculptor Camille Allen from British Columbia, who molds these newborn cherubs from clay. Real as they may look, they are far from it.
[Camille Allen]Allen has been working with clay her entire life. She says she was inspired to create this project because of her mother-in-law. The other artist in the family used to create life-size sculptures of people.

Allen, simply sticks with these petite cherubs:
[Camille Allen]But because they are so small in size, Allen says it’s so easy for something to go wrong. One wrong flick of the wrist or too sudden a motion, and the entire piece can be ruined.
[Camille Allen]It’s painstakingly detailed work that takes the artist many hours to complete, but she says there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of a job well done.
[Camille Allen]Just look at all the detail in these pieces. We couldn’t be more impressed by their real, lifelike characteristics.
