Waking up alone in the hospital surrounded by strangers can be traumatizing for any child, and one dedicated dad refused to let that happen to his 20-month-old son.
After working third shift all night, Andre Palmer was understandably exhausted, but instead of going home, the hardworking dad headed straight to the York Hospital Pediatric Unit where his baby boy was staying overnight. When he got there, his son was asleep in his hospital bed, so Andre curled up on the floor right underneath his son.
Mom Amy Palmer had fallen asleep in the chair beside her son’s bed, and when she woke up to check on her boy, she was stunned to see her husband on the floor. “I thought to myself after working all night he didn’t have to come to the hospital. He could have went home to sleep,” Amy said.
“He could have asked me to get up, but he didn’t because he knew how tired I was. He’s a great man,” mom said.
Amy managed to snap a picture of the touching moment and posted it to her Facebook page. “This is a picture of a hard-working man dedicated to his family!!” she wrote. “He’s so tired but he’s here!! Father of the year award goes to Andre Palmer!!!”
Since posting the photo, it’s been like more than 3,000 times, and Amy is stunned by the reaction. “I am so glad that this touched so many people,” she said.
