After getting diagnosed with cancer, almost everyone dreams of their last day of treatment when doctors will be able to tell them that they are officially cancer free.
When Alissa Bousquet found out that she only had only had one more day of chemotherapy to treat her breast cancer, her husband Brad decided to commemorate the special day they had been waiting for since being diagnosed by having 500 roses delivered to her at the hospital.
“She has amazed me with her strength, courage, and positive attitude through it all,” Brad wrote on YouTube. “I wanted to do something special during this last treatment to celebrate the end of her chemo and to show her the tremendous love and support she has from her friends and family.”
With the help of local florist Sue Beckner, Brad enlisted the community’s help to buy a rose for $10 each, which would be donated entirely to the Susan G. Komen foundation. After spreading the word, they managed to raise $4,500 for the cause, and had about 500 roses to bring to Alissa.
“That’s what’s cool about a small town,” Beckner said. “You hate it because every thinks they know your business, but when you need support there’s no better place.”
When Alissa’s final chemo treatment came around on June 23, Brad stunned his wife with the roses, but rather than keeping them for herself, Alissa decided to hand out the roses to other patients and staff. “The giving is better than the receiving, a hundred percent on that one,” Alissa said.
