It’s not easy for new parents to share intimate photos of themselves or their little ones, but stand-up comedienne Tig Notaro knew it was important to share her full story with her loving fans who have helped her through the best and worst of times.
The comic and new mother recently shared her first up-close-and-personal photos with newborn twin sons Max and Finn, who were recently born via a surrogate to Notaro and her wife, Stephanie Allynne earlier this summer.
The sweet photo shows the 45-year-old comedian and newlywed enjoying some much-needed cuddle time, but a closer look reveals a deeper truth.

As Notaro cuddles her newborn baby boys on each side of her on the bed, she writes “This is my life.” A glance down reveals Notaro’s scars from a double mastectomy after a battle with bilateral breast cancer.
After a 2012 diagnosis of the often deadly disease, right around the time her mother passed away, the stand-up comedienne took her pain and suffering to the stage with an epic set called “Hello, I Have Cancer.”
Yet today, Notaro and wife Allyne have much to be thankful for.
“People are hard on comedians who have kids and start talking about them all the time,” Notaro told PEOPLE. “They’re like, ‘Ugh, they lost their edge.’ I can’t wait to lose my edge.”
