Sight and sound are two things most of us take for granted every day. It can be hard to imagine an existence without these gifts, unless you’ve been there yourself.
That’s exactly why the following sweet video is a nice reminder of all we have to be grateful for. In the video by Caters, 3-month-old newborn Annabelle Lawrence can be seen sitting with her mom, Sarah Jo Lawless of Boise, Idaho. When Annabelle was born in 2016, Sarah Jo was devasted when doctors told her that her daughter had profound hearing loss and may be deaf for her entire life.
“I just wanted to take it away from her,” Sarah Jo told Inside Edition in an interview. “I wanted to give her my ears. I was so helpless. I wanted to help my baby.”
Luckily, just a few months after her birth, that all changed when Sarah Jo was told baby Annabelle could be a candidate for hearing aids, although there was no guarantee they would help her. When the day came to turn them on, little Annabelle’s eyes lit up with delight, as she heard her mom’s voice for the first time.
Annabelle’s mom said although the hearing aids helped, her daughter has a long road ahead that includes speech therapy, learning sign language, and hopefully someday she will be the youngest baby in Idaho to receive a cochlear implant at 9-months-old.
