An oyster reef is a good place to find oysters, bivalve molluscs that live in brackish environments and are necessary to sustain the ecosystem.
However, an oyster reef is a pretty bad place to search for a kitten, yet one little guy managed to find his way out onto one in Florida without anybody knowing how he got there.
The kitten was rescued last week by the Martin County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and is being prepared for adoption by caretakers.
The incident took place in Southern Florida, just North of West Palm Beach.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has been tracking the safety and progress of the kitten they rescued from the water and is ready to see it find a happy home, Martin County officials said.
The Marine Unit says when they finally arrived at the water, officials found a tiny kitten climbing onto oysters on the pilings, struggling to to keep his tiny head above the water.
Deputies rescued the kitten, and it was taken to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, where caregivers named him “Roosevelt,” after the bridge. The Humane Society has been updating Roosevelt’s progress on its Facebook page and is asking people to reach out if they’re interested in adopting him.
