Having a video go viral can definitely turn a person’s world upside down.
Life post-viral craziness is never the same for 15-minutes-of-fame, social-media-type celebrities like “Chewbacca Mom” Candace Payne, who posted her now-infamous video playing with a Star Wars mask. However, there are also good amount of people who find viral stardom isn’t all you might think it would be.
Blogger Mel Watts, aka The Modern Mumma, recently learned the hard way that internet trolls and cyber bullies can be way more ruthlessly mean than the kids in the schoolyard parents are so worried about. “The problem isn’t our children,” she begins. “It’s the parents. The parents are the problem. The parents are the ones that are causing all the bullies.”
After sharing an honest Facebook post a rare afternoon “quickie” with her husband, Watts found herself in a world wind of viral fame and a lot more criticism and harassment than she could have ever imagined.
“I’m not normally your day time quickie kinda person but today I thought the amount of effort he has put into every sexual advance it would just be plain mean of me,” she wrote on Facebook. “Silver lining he’s happy for the next few days and I’m going to bed without dick jabbed in my back.”
Unsurprisingly, other moms thought she had shared way too much information and instantly attacked Watts for her honesty.
Now, in a video posted on YouTube, Watts tearfully explains to her followers how parents should really be focusing on being better influences to their own children if they want their kids to be kind to one another and end bullying.
