A nursery worker is facing jail time after she’s being accused of assaulting children at the daycare she worked at.
25-year-old Laura Houston, a worker at Happy Days Too Nursery drew a mustache on a toddler’s face while the child was sleeping. She also is said to have pulled the little boy’s legs away from him, causing him to fall and smack his face off the floor, leaving him in tears.
Houston denied she’d done anything wrong and showed no emotion when she was convicted of assaulting three children in her care between August 2014 and February 2015.
Because the children were only one-year-old, they could not speak out about the assault that was happening to them, but trainees who worked with Houston are testifying against her.
“Laura was, at that time, taking a picture of [the boy] with one of the nursery cameras of [him] with the pen on his face,” said trainee Jennifer Mackie.
She explained, “I was still in training. This was a qualified staff member-I’m meant to be looking up to her. I felt a bit uneasy.”
Houston had been charged with assaulting five one-year-olds and faced one charge in relation to each of the children.
Speaking after Houston was convicted, Dougie Macaulay, the owner of Happy Days Too, said: “Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of the children in our care.
