A Bengal Tiger has been rescued from the Khan Younis Zoo in the Gaza Strip, a zoo that activists have dubbed the world’s worst zoo.
The 9-year-old animal, Laziz, was reportedly kept in a small cage alongside the stuffed corpse of another tiger.
Four Paws had been making routine visits to the zoo and providing medical aid to the animals kept there, which reports say, were victims of negligence for years.
Other animals brought to safety in the rescue include a porcupine, emu, deer, and multiple monkeys.
15 animals were rescued in total. Most will go to an animal rehabilitation center in Jordan.
Laziz, however, was flown to South Africa, where he will be settled at the Lionsrock Big Cat Sanctuary.
According to Buzzfeed News, Laziz will soon have the freedom to climb, jump, swim, and roam his new 10,000-square-meter enclosure.
We wish Laziz the best of luck in exploring his new home.
