Hunter Saves Deer From Being Killed By Giant Python

While most hunters typically go out for a hunt with the intent to kill an animal, one Florida hunter couldn’t help but save a defenseless animal who was seconds away from becoming another animal’s dinner.

Jimmy Wilson was out hiking through a swamp area near Ochopee, which is within the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida when he stumbled upon a white-tailed deer on the ground. It appeared to still be alive but made no attempt to run away as Wilson got closer.

When he got close enough, however, Wilson realized a giant python, a non-native invasive species in Florida, was wrapped around the dear’s body and was seconds from strangling it and eating it for dinner. “A python just grabbed this f***** deer,” Wilson said as he started filming the unusual scene.

Pythons have been blamed for upsetting the natural balance of the ecosystem in the Everglades, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission actually promotes hunting pythons in the state.

Wilson could tell the deer had no chance of escaping the python’s hold, so he decided to fire a few rounds of his gun until the snake released its grip, and finally shot a few more times until the snake was dead.

The kind hunter then went to help the stunned deer and got it to stand up and run away.
