Dad Shares Video Telling His Son Mom Died Of Heroin Overdose And Goes Viral

An Ohio father filmed himself telling his son the worst news he will likely ever hear in his life…. and then decided to share it online.

In the emotional footage, Brenden Bickerstaff-Clark tells his 8-year-old son that his mother has passed away from a heroin overdose.

“What? What do you mean, my mom? How?” his child replies in the video below. “From drugs,” Bickerstaff-Clark says before an emotional breakdown ensues.

There aren’t many more words exchanged between the two, just tears, hugs, and a moment in which Bickerstaff-Clark tells his son, “I love you.”

The grieving single father shared the video to Facebook on October 10 stating, “this is for every addict with children.” He says he shared the video because he doesn’t want other children of addicts enduring what his son has to endure.

The emotional footage has been shared more than 600,000 times, gaining traction widely across the web. However, many criticize the father for sharing such an emotional moment online with complete strangers. On the other hand, some commended the father for his brave act and encouraged him to keep up his own sobriety for his young son.

According to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention, nearly half a million people died from drug overdose between 2000-2014. Opioid-related deaths made up an alarming amount of that total. The epidemic is growing and something needs to change if we want to see a reversal of these statistics.
