When Junichi Fukuda’s 16-year-old dog and best friend passed away, he was completely devastated.

Having recently gone through a divorce, 55-year-old Fukuda says that his black pug Momoko was his entire life. “She was the best pet in the world for me. The reason I was able to work hard and become more successful was because I was together with Momoko, that was how much I loved her,” Fukuda said.

Luckily, weeks before Momoko passed, Fukuda was able to get cell samples taken of the dog in order for her to be cloned. One-hundred-thousand dollars and three months later, his cloned pooch was ready to be picked up.

Unfortunately, Fukuda needs to wait until his cloned pup is old enough to pass through Japanese customs and be able to come home with him to his apartment in Tokyo.

For now, Fukuda flies to Seoul every Friday where he heads to Biotech Labs to pick up his black pug who he named Momotan, and spends the day with her in any apartment he rented. After hanging with the 5-month-old pup all weekend, Fukuda drops her off Monday morning and takes an 8-hour commute back home to Japan. Fukuda has been doing this since May, and in November he will be able to take Momotan home with him.

While some probably think this is a lot of work to see a pet, Fukuda has already invested so much money in cloning his dog, that he fears she will reject him if he doesn’t visit her enough.

Would you ever consider cloning your dog?
