Every family tree has it’s fair share of issues. We’re all a little nutty and there’s often at least one bad apple in the bunch, but this North Carolina family might have just tipped the scale of insanity.

Twenty-year-old Crystal Brooke Howell of Maggie Valley set a new standard of crazy when she murdered her father, installed a stripper pole in his kitchen, and proceeded to have “drug-fueled” parties while concealing his body in a plastic container, according to WYFF4.

This all happened when she was 17 years old on February 24, 2014. Now, three years later, she has finally been sentenced.

Howell shot her father while he napped and hid the body in a plastic container, out of sight in the storage shed. His body stayed there for a month while Howell continued to host parties in the family’s eight-bedroom cabin.

Then, when guests were moving a pinball machine into the storage shed one day, they found the body and promptly called authorities.

Assistant district attorney Jeff Jones said the following:

Miss Howell had previously told her friends that her father had killed himself. She then started to drive his car and spend his money. She had her friends move in, had a drug-fueled party and even had a stripper pole installed in the kitchen.

After the discovery was made, the young woman fled her father’s home and went to her mother’s, bringing all her belongings with her in her father’s orange Land Rover.

Last week, Howell pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and concealing a death at Haywood County Court.

District attorney Ashley Welch said:

It’s shocking that a young woman kills her father. But the fact that Howell then began to spend her father’s money, use his house and drive his car – all after hiding his body and the evidence of her crime – that’s the motive. She wanted to live on her terms at the expense of Michael Howell’s life. It’s very sad.

Howell was sentenced to 25 years for murder and up to 84 months for concealing a body. She is believed to have a history of mental illness.
