On the morning of September 24th, Michelle Silverman couldn’t shake the feeling she had to stay home from work.
“It went through my head, ‘You need to be home. You need to be home,’” Michelle told Asbury Park Press. So Michelle decided to listen to her instincts and stay home with her husband Gene, 69, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s six years ago. Due to his diagnosis, Gene has constant neck pain which interferes with his ability to move. Most days, he spends afternoons in his recliner, with their dog, Charlie.
While Michelle normally wouldn’t have considered to stay home from work, since she supports the household by working multiple jobs, day and night, something told her to stay home that day. So Michelle and her husband decided to get the car oil changed that day and then have lunch. Two hours later, a Toyota Camry crashed right through the front of their house, demolishing the recliner would have usually been sitting on.
If Michelle hadn’t listened to her inner voice, that car would have likely struck both Gene and Charlie.
When the couple returned to their neighborhood, they found police cars everywhere. When asked what happened, police said the Silverman’s neighbors, Gregory Wolff, and his mother, Anne, were starting to pull out head-first out of their driveway, and the accelerator on their car got stuck. Wolff hasn’t been cited as a result of the incident, and the neither of the Wolffs were injured in the crash.
