Not too long ago, reaching a $1 million valuation for a startup was a huge victory, but companies are now surpassing that value and reaching all time highs. Today, the top 15 startups in the world today are valued at a combined $222 billion.
According to The Wall Street Journal’s ‘Billion Dollar Startup Club‘, these are the top nine most successful startups with valuations of $10 billion or more.
9. Dropbox
Dropbox, which was founded in 2007, is currently valued at $10 billion. The company has over 200 million users around the world, and allows users to save and share files easily on the web.
8. Airbnb
Airbnb is currently valued at $10 billion. The 2008 startup is available in 190 countries and connects users looking to rent out their homes temporarily with users looking for accommodations.
7. Pinterest
As of March 2015, Pinterest was valued at $11 billion after raising $367 million in funding. The company was founded in 2008, and is a visual discovery tool that allows users to find ideas for projects and interests.
6. Flipkart
Flipkart is an Indian based e-commerce site that concentrates on electronic goods as well as books and music. The company was founded in 2007 and is currently valued at $11 billion.
5. SpaceX
SpaceX, Elon Musk’s private aerospace manufacturer and space transport company, is currently valued at $12 billion. The company was founded in 2002, and designs, builds, and launches vehicles for space exploration.
4. Palantir
Palantir, which was founded in 2004, is currently valued at $15 billion. The software and services company specializes in data analysis. The CIA and the FBI are among the company’s top clients.
3. Snapchat
As of March 2015, Snapchat was valued at $15 billion after a $200 million investment by Alibaba. The company was founded in 2012, and is a photo-messaging app that allows users to send photos and short videos that disappear automatically after a set period of time.
2. Uber
Uber comes in as the second highest-valued startup in the world at $41.2 billion. The company, which was founded in 2009, connects users with private vehicles under contract with the company through the Uber app.
1. Xiaomi
Xiaomi was founded in 2010, and is currently valued at $46 billion. The highest-valued startup is the largest smartphone vendor in china.
