The recent United States Presidential election results have given many Americans a feeling of uncertainty about the future of our country, but if there is anyone who knows how resilient our nation can be it’s our heroes, our older veterans, who have been through and seen it all.

Yet, with all the hate and anger being spread around the country, one East Texas veteran knows that no matter what happens, he will continue a daily tradition that sets his mind right. The army veteran told KLTV that although he worries about the future of the U.S., he will be hopeful about president-elect Donald Trump and refuses to stop honoring the American flag each morning.

“That flag was given to this country by Almighty God. We have died for that flag for years. I’m proud of what I done. I’m proud there’s a God above me and I know my buddies are all right,” U.S. Army veteran Glynn Peel told KLTV.

Specifically, the size of the national debt and its effect on social security and Medicare worries the elderly man who lives in a nursing home in Tyler, Texas.

“Naturally I’m worried about my country, yes ma’am, I am deeply worried about my country. I have children and grandchildren. I want them to be able to grow up and be able to enjoy this country like I have. Yes, we have our flaws, but this is the greatest nation on earth,” he said.

However, he is hopeful that no matter what happens, his faith in his country and his flag, will persevere.

“My line of thinking is we have a chance to come back to some of our defaults. We have faults as every nation has, but maybe Trump can straighten out some of ’em,” Peel says in the video below. “But we shall see. I could be wrong. God help us if I’m wrong.”

When asked if he will continue to support president-elect Trump, Peel revealed that he thinks our country needs to come back to God and put their faith in their new leader to be united. “He’s my president. Until he proves himself unworthy of my choice, I will stand by him,” he said.
