The marijuana business is growing like a weed and a Colorado entrepreneur is cashing in on the new market. CannaCamp, a Bud+Breakfast™ Mountain Resort, is like summer camp for stoners. Located in Durango, Colorado, the mountain lodging includes your typical outdoor adventures like hiking, rock climbing, and zip lining, all with the optional accompaniment of cannabis.
The resort also offers cannabis-centered activities like educational classes, glass-blowing demonstrations, and yoga.
At 4:20 everyday, there’s a happy hour, and meals come with a recommendation of strains to pair taste with aroma and flavor. The website boasts, “through these meals, you will gain a new appreciation for both cannabis and food, jumpstarting your path towards becoming true cannabis connoisseurs, or Cannaseurs if you will.”
Of course, the luxury mountain resort is not a cheap joint. The price per customer is a humble $395 a night and that’s before you buy any herbs. CannaCamp can’t actually supply their guests as it violates state laws, but the on-site marijuana concierge (I swear I’m not making this up), will recommend strains and suggest pairings for activities and meals.
Recreational Marijuana sales however, are booming in Colorado, and we’re not just blowing smoke. Licensed businesses selling recreational marijuana are collectively bringing in millions. A 2015 Convergex study found that Colorado “grossed $3.55 million in revenues from the 10% retail sales tax in January, which suggests stores earned $35.5 million in revenue.” The only thing higher than those numbers, are the ones driving them up.
