There is nothing more telling of Thanksgiving Day than the smell of cooked turkey wafting through the house. Unless, of course, Thanksgiving smells to you like deep-fried Turkey wafting through the backyard.

For almost 25% of Americans consuming turkey on Thanksgiving, the preferred method of cooking the bird is in a huge vat of oil. Not only does deep-frying a turkey seal in the flavor and make it extra-delicious, it also cuts the cooking time in half.

But if you are going to dunk your bird in a bath of boiling oil, please do yourself a favor and cook it outside… and never under any circumstances, ever put a frozen turkey straight into the oil!

Police officers and firefighters demonstrated why you should always thaw a frozen turkey before you deep-fry it and the results are alarming. Take a look at the following video and remember these statistics: each year, fryer fires are responsible for approximately 5 deaths, 60 injuries, and the destruction of nearly 900 homes on Thanksgiving Day.
