5. Deadmau5- $21 million
This eccentric helmet wearing dj has mass appeal. Joel Thomas Zimmerman is his real name, and he is a Canadian progressive house music producer. Deadmau5 is most well known for his trendy mouse shaped helmets that light up or pulse with LED colors, and he is known as one of the founders of the Dubstep music genre. Deadmau5 has recently surpassed Skrillex in his earnings and it’s rumored that he now brings in $200,000 a night. Deadmau5 also manages his own label, Mau5trap, and has been known to bash Skrillex- at one point showing up to an event with a t-shirt featuring Skrillex’s personal cell phone number and the phrase “u mad bro?”
4. Swedish House Mafia- $25 million
As their name suggests, Swedish House Mafia are progressive house DJ’s from Sweden. Any venue that books and secures this act consisting of Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrossos is sure to sell out in hours. Fans absolutely cannot get enough of this trio, going as far as to travel around the country to see them perform. When it was announced that their final tour would be on June 24, 2012, fans from all over the world flew to ticket booths and venues, and hoped to snag a ticket to their event. There they announced that they were breaking up for good, and although their fans will miss them, they have certainly ranked in enough money if they had to retire.
3. David Guetta- $30 million
David Guetta is a famous French DJ who has become a household name over the years. He has developed a pretty devoted fan following- fans being known to line up outside a club or venue even if they don’t have a ticket, just to hear him perform through the doors. Most will spend an average of $200 or even $400 to see him perform for a couple of hours, and when Guetta is not spinning at the clubs, he can be found making music. He has recorded with several famous artists including Nicki Minaj and Flo Rida. David Guetta sold over six million albums worldwide and fifteen million singles and has been voted #1 DJ by a fan-based poll.
2. Tiesto- $32 million
Tiesto is a Dutch DJ with a pretty incredible following. He has been known to earn $250,000 per night, and DJ Magazine Top 100 Popularity Poll has ranked him as number 1 three consecutive times. When he isn’t spinning at the hottest clubs, he can be found recording music. Tiesto has released nine albums and recorded with Sarah McLachlan earlier in his career. In 2007, he even launched his own radio show Tiesto’s Club Life in the Netherlands, and released his third album Elements of Life. Both were met with overwhelming approval and his album placed #1 on a Dutch album chart and the Billboard Tip Electronic Albums in the U.S.. Tiesto has maintained worldwide success, and with $32 lives a jet-setting lifestyle.
1. Calvin Harris- $46 million
This Scotsman’s real name is Adam Richard Wiles, but he is known most famously as Calvin Harris. He is a multitalented DJ who doesn’t just spin the decks; he is also a singer, songwriter, producer, and owner of the coveted vanity label Fly Eye Records. Calvin Harris is only 29 years old, yet he holds the record for the most top ten hits from one studio album on the UK singles chart, which puts him above legends such as Michael Jackson. Calvin Harris has been nominated for several awards over the years, and among his accolades are Songwriter of the Year, and Best Commercial/Pop Dance track. He has the ladies flocking to him, and his most recent ex girlfriend is the famous Rita Ora.
