Polish lieutenant Karol Cierpica owes his life to Michael Ollis of Staten Island, who heroically saved him in the line of fire.
Members of the Polish and US military were working together in Afghanistan when Al Qaeda attacked in August of 2013. It was an unexpected attack in which ten suicide bombers breached their post. While nine of those bombers were halted, one was not. The man charged the troops and when it appeared everything was lost for Cierpica, Ollis stepped in and saved the man’s life.
