It’s called the facekini, and it is all the rage in China.
It was invented back in 2012, and it is designed to protect the wearer from the sun, algae and jellyfish stings.
Women all over China wear it, and it is becoming more and more popular each year as there is even an annual revival event to celebrate it in the eastern China city of Qingdao.
As you can see in the photos below, middle-aged Chinese women wear it to the beach to protect their skin from the sun’s rays, and it is becoming a warm-weather accessory, even though it may look pretty creepy to observers.

The craziest part is fashion designers in New York City want to bring it to the United States!
The fashion trade magazine called CR Fashion Book recently released an issue that contains an eight photo spread featuring models in facekini’s, and they paired them with swimsuits from designers like Gucci, Alexander Wang, Emporio Armani and Michael Kors.
With hotter summers, and more sun exposure comes an increase in the likelihood of developing skin care, and like it or not, these creepy masks may be invading American beaches before long.
