Imagine it’s the year 1500, and you are stepping into the elevator of 1 World Trade Center.
Okay, you’re going to have to use quite a bit of imagination for this one (or click the video below). A videographer imagined what it would be like to ascend to the top of 1 World Trade Center and progress through time as it happened. So, naturally, the video begins with a green expanse of land as of the year 1500. If you remember your history lessons correctly, the Dutch originally claimed New York and named it New Amsterdam back in 1626. In 1664, the city (which was hardly more than a town at that point) was sold to the English.
History progressed and buildings rose with it. The incredible time-lapse accurately shows the expansive elements of the city rising at their correct periods. It even takes the tragedy that happened on September 11 into account. “The event is certainly a key part of history,” chairman and chief executive of Legends Hospitality David W. Checketts said, referring to the attacks. “We did not think you could ignore it. Having it appear in the year it did and disappear in the year it did was the respectful way of addressing the fact that it was part of the landscape,” he told BGR.
