It’s about time somebody figured this one out.

Here’s the scenario: It’s Saturday morning and you’re meeting your friends for brunch, but it begins to rain. You were going to go out to a trendy outdoor cafe, but at the rate at which this rain is now falling, you’ll be swimming through your bottomless brunch in a different way than you originally had planned.

You happened to to bring an umbrella with you but the struggle is now real. You’re trying to text the squad but you can’t hold the umbrella with one forearm, while you text with the other, so you’re getting poured on from above. You turn your head up toward the clouds and shout angrily at your deity, “why must this happen to me? Why do you hate me so?”

But then…

An attractive stranger approaches you through the mist. There’s rain dripping down your face mixed with the sweat on your brow. You blink through the haze and can barely make out her attractive (and quite dry) figure. My god–she’s done it. She has the answer to texting while holding an umbrella. How has this magical creature completed such a feat?! And then you see it: a curved handle.

“Wow,” you think as you scratch your wet head. “Why did it take us so long to figure this one out? This first text message was sent on December 3, 1992 and twenty-three years later somebody finally invented the solution to texting in the rain?”

The attractive stranger locks eyes with you, hands you her nifty umbrella, and the music hits its crescendo as the two of you fall helplessly in love. The sunshine of love has emerged from a storm of first world problems. All is at peace in the world. At least…that’s my interpretation of this oddly romantic commercial.

Watch all the drama and excitement go down:

Where can I buy it?

I should probably mention at this point that the nifty umbrella (called the phone-brella), was produced by South Korea’s reportedly second largest phone carrier, KT.

The Korea Times reports the device won a Red Dot Design Award for “Best of the Best” in product design. Despite the genius design, the company has not yet announced whether or not they will be producing it for the masses. So in the meantime, we will continue to suffer in silence.
