If you have a Facebook account (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?) then you’ve seen Humans of New York.
Chances are, you’ve come across at least one inspiring HONY photo that your best friend’s aunt posted on her timeline. The project was started in 2010 by photographer Brandon Stanton to map the lives and stories of New Yorkers.
Stanton will post a photograph of an intriguing human in New York along with a quote they said about their life. It’s an inspiring blog that allows people to look through the lens of another person’s life.
But then, some Millennials created a parody.
It’s surprising that it took five whole years for a parody account of HONY to come about considering that the original blog has over 8 million followers. Elite Daily writers, Connor Toole and Alec MacDonald created “Millennials of New York,” a parody Instagram account that makes fun of our generation.
Millennials of New York humorously catalogs the trials and tribulations of being a millennial, while looking at our thoughts on political activism, Tindering, and asking our parents for money when the struggle is real. It’s hard to look at the page without wanting to hang your head in shame because you’ve probably said something similar at one point. Yup, it’s every once of satirical brilliance you hoped it would be.
