Did you know….
Hedgehogs are funny little critters. They evolved about 15 million years ago, and haven’t changed much since. It’s worked well for them, however. While other species’ were out growing fangs and hunting, hedgehogs best form of defense was to curl up in a ball and grow spikes on its body, making it an adorably prickly animal. (And, while science cannot confirm this, I have a strong reason to believe they are terrible at sharing the hedge).

1. A group of hedgehogs are called an “array.”

2. Each hedgehog has between 5,000 and 7,000 quills (ouch!)…
But they can choose whether or not to make them prickly by activating muscles in their backs.

3. Hedgehogs can get stuck on their back, just like turtles do (as demonstrated by this video).
