As of April 2014, almost 7,000 troops died fighting the war oversees in Afghanistan and Iraq. The losses hit everyone tremendously, especially the family and friends of those who passed away.

No one knew this pain more than Bill Krissoff, the father of First Lt. Nathan Krissoff of Reno, Nevada, who lost his son fighting the war in Iraq.

Bill needed to find a way to honor his son Nathan, so being an Orthopedic Surgeon, he made a decision that surprised everyone.  He enlisted in the Navy Medical Corps in the hope of being assigned to Iraq.

To Bill’s dismay however, he got a letter back saying that he was too old to be enlisted as he was past the age limit at 61 years old.  It was possible to get an age waiver, but that could take up to a year.

Bill was determined, and was not going to give up his dream to honor his fallen son.

How does Bill’s story turn out?  Did he get to serve in the Navy Medical Corps in Iraq? Or, were his dreams shattered due to his age?

Watch this touching video below to find out!

Hint: Bill’s luck changed when he met with President Bush.
