Our favorite Showtime drama is back, and with the premiere this Sunday, October 4, we have a ton to look forward to.

Claires Danes and Mandy Patinkin are returning, and there are a few new cast members to get excited about and 5 major things to anticipate.

I am not necessarily giving away any spoilers, instead just information based trailers and press teasers. But, anyone who is superconscious about spoilers is forewarned.

1. It answers questions

When Homeland season 4 rapped up last December, it left viewers on a cliff hanger. One of the major questions it left us with is when Quinn was recruited by his Spec Ops buddies to take down high-profile terrorist targets in Syria, did he come out of the mission alive?  Not to mention what will his relationship look like with Carrie if he does?

We are also wondering about Saul and Dar Adal. In season 4, the two CIA operatives made a deal with some questionable allies for the sake of peace. How will that agreement impact the rest of season 5? Does it earn Saul the CIA director position he’s been pining for?

A resolution to all of these questions will be revealed in season 5.

2. A brand new setting and story

Heading into its premiere, Showtime producers have spilled a few details. One of the most publicized is that the new season takes place on-location in Berlin, Germany with three years of separation between season 4’s events. We anticipate it being refreshing to see the show take place somewhere else in the world.

3. A changed Carrie?

At the beginning of season 5, viewers can see Carrie in a very different role. Since season 4, she has alienated herself from the CIA, and instead she works in security for a German benefactor that tries to ensure peace through “alternative means.”

It’s also said that Carrie will be viewing the world from a more “domestic” perspective as well. And with a love interest supporting her, she’s starting to feel happier at home. Is this change permanent, or just a distraction from the operative lifestyle she’s born to lead?

We’ll find out soon.

4. New cast

There’s a ton of fresh characters in season 5, and while the casting news has flown under the radar, there are at least six talented actors bringing new roles to the series. Among those are Schindler’s List’s Mark Ivanir, Micah Hauptman from Masters of Sex, and Lord of the Ring’s Miranda Otto, whom will help Saul run his CIA operation out of Berlin.

Sebastian Koch plays Carrie’s benefactor boss, and colleagues at the organization will be acted by Sarah Sokolovic and Alexander Fehling of Inglourious Basterds.

5. Saul in power?

We don’t know if Saul attains full directorship of the CIA, but trailers suggest that he’s still very much involved with the organization. He’s traded in his less formal attire for a suit a tie, which means he has to be in some position of authority.

We hope that this year Saul finally gets the respect he deserves.

What are you excited to see this season of Homeland?
