dating apps

Cuffing Season is officially over, and now it’s time for a new summer relationship. Not sure where to start? How about the millions of dating apps that let you meet matches right from your iPhone?

We’ve all tried (and failed) to use Tinder to make a meaningful connection. But don’t give up hope yet! There are a ton of dating apps out there that you’ve probably never heard of, but you should definitely download them ASAP. Who knows, your new boyfriend/girlfriend could be out there waiting!

the catch

1. The Catch

Although this app is still in Beta, it has the potential to the best (and most fun) dating app out there. Kind of like “The Bachelorette” of dating apps, it creates a game where men answer a series of questions put forth by a woman on the app, and that woman gets to pick the winner–i.e. the one man who answers the questions best for her. Then the two can start a conversation, and hopefully, a real connection.

hinge-app

2. Hinge

This app is Tinder’s biggest competitor. But the nice thing is that it isn’t quite so random; you are only allowed to match with people who are friends of friends. So instead of swiping through a bunch of strangers just because they are in the area, you’ll know these people are legit, and you’ll also get to see someone’s education and work experience up front. On this app, you’ll already have at least one thing in common when you match.

bumble-app

3. Bumble

A girl’s best friend, this app eliminates the pesky #byefelipe problem that women who online date know all too well. When a match is made by swiping right, the woman has 24 hours to start a conversation, otherwise the match disappears forever. Only the woman can make the first move, which protects them from getting mean and degrading messages from trolls online.

SIREN

4. Siren

This is another app, similar to Bumble, that makes women want to online date again. But unlike Bumble, this is a Q&A based site, where women can put a question forward, and men have to answer in order to create a match. And women only show their photo to men they are interested in, which eliminates objectification, and also makes it clear to men that a woman in interested in them.

the grade

5. The Grade

Just when they thought school was over, members find that they’re still being graded, even in their dating lives. This app encourages good behavior by giving every member a grade, A through F, based on things like photos and messages. So if someone is a major creeper, you’ll know before you even message them (and that way, can avoid it).

dating-ring

6. The Dating Ring

This is one of the few dating apps that uses a matchmaker to help you find love, not an equation. For those who are too busy to endlessly swipe for love, The Dating Ring lets someone else do the work. You won’t be matched just based on location, but based on the fact that you actually might like each other. But, like all great things, the dates don’t come free, so only sign up if you’re really serious about finding love.

tangle

7. Tangle

This one uses your locations in a new way; it only shows you connections you’ve walked past. It’s been compared to the missed connections section on on craigslist, but maybe a little less creepy since both people have to have downloaded the app in order to be matched. So get outside and see if you can find that cute guy or girl you pass every day on the way to work!

7 Things Your First Real Job Teaches You

$

seenheardknown.com

While some of us may have gotten really lucky with our first real job (be it out of college or high school), for most of us it was filled with more learning experiences than anything else.

No matter what we had originally anticipated for our first real job, it probably hit us like a ton of bricks, when we realized that money was not overflowing out of our pockets, and we actually had to work ridiculously hard for even a small amount of money.

We were no longer the Carrie Bradshaw that we thought we would be, and we were then left contemplating how we could have actually prepared for this harsh reality. And while the truth is that we couldn’t prepare, the lessons that our first real job taught us can be taken with us forever, and used as life experiences to pass on to our children.

Here are LifeDaily’s 7 Things Your First Real Job Teaches You:

1. You have to prove yourself

Your resume may say one thing, but your actions will say another. Your boss won’t promote you on your first day, and probably not until a while after. You may start at the bottom, but if you prove yourself, you can then be thought of as as great as you said you were, and it is only then that you will move forward with promotions, bonuses, and so fourth. You have to remember that you’re going to make mistakes, but what a boss wants to see is that you will demonstrate that you’re capable of working past them, and growing out of them towards improvement.

2. You are not entitled to anything

Some of us have always had a sense of entitlement- our generation is actually known for it. Back in the day of our grandparents, and parents, there was no such thing as entitlement, because they had to work very hard for everything. If we were born into a very affluent family, we may have a sense of entitlement, but the reality is that no one is entitled to anything- everyone must work for their success. You are not entitled to your dream job just because you went to college, and you are not entitled to make $100,000 a year just because you’re smart. Nothing comes without hard work.

3. Money isn’t everything

You will soon realize with your first job that money certainly isn’t everything. If you are at a job you want to be at, you probably will not mind the lack of money (better known as entry level pay) as much, however if you are at a job that you dislike, the lack of cash might really get to you. Most of us in our first real job are have a lot to prove, as mentioned above, we will not make as much as someone on the job for 5 years. With that said, we learn that money isn’t everything, and although others may be making more than you, it does not mean that they are happy.

4. It is not enough to be on time- you have to be early

Most of us may have learned from our first real job that being on time means being late. If you have to be in at 9, and you are not by your desk ready to go by 8:45, then you are late. Do yourself a favor and eliminate the stress that being late gives you, and just be early, because if you’re early, you’re on time. While you may think your boss doesn’t realize if they are busy doing something else, he/she does, and they take note of everything. Being consistently early will be appreciated.

5. Hard work actually does pay off

As cliche as it may sound, applying yourself does pay off- even if the end result is a minimum wage paycheck. A first real job done well gives you a sense of accomplishment, where you can rejoice for the hard work you put fourth, knowing that for the moment, you weren’t getting much in return. You will even feel a sense of triumph knowing that you are paying your own bills, and you’re doing it yourself, which is something that no one can take away from you.

6. Success is relative

One of the most valuable things you can learn in your career, and in your lifetime, is that success is relative. A Lamborghini and a Chanel bag isn’t a measure of success for everyone. Everyone is on a different path, and no matter which direction you are going, you have to do what makes you happy. Whether it’s working as a secretary at a publishing company to get your dream job as a writer, or working in the mail room at a company to work your way up to the top. You have to follow your own path, and chase after your own dreams.

7. You have time

You always have plenty of time. You do not have to land your dream job in your 20s, your 30s, or even your 40s, because the road to getting to your dream is what makes it worthwhile in the end. It’s your journey that makes you appreciate your dream when you finally get to it, and by then you will probably create a new dream for yourself. Just keep learning and keep growing.

7 Reasons Why Laughter is the Best Medicine

From improving your mood to improving your immune system, laughter may actually be one of the best methods for improving health and wellbeing.

Some studies show that children laugh approximately 300-400 times a day, while adults only laugh about 15 times. With those numbers in mind, it’s fair to say we all could use a few more laughs.

Here are seven reasons backed by science why you should laugh more.

7. Reduces Stress and Anxiety

Studies show that laughter reduces the level of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline, while also increasing the levels of hormones like endorphins, which induces euphoria and regulates pain and stress; dopamine, which regulates emotional responses; and serotonin, which is the body’s natural mood lifter.

6. Boosts the Immune System

Stress has been shown to suppress the immune system, which makes your body more susceptible to infections. Laughing, while not only being a stress preventer, increases the amount of immunoglobulin and T cells, which scan, identify, and neutralize bacteria and viruses, in the body.

5. Improves Respiration

When you laugh, you empty your lungs of more air than than is taken in, which results in a cleansing effect. Those longer exhalations rid the lungs of residual air, and enrich the blood with fresh supplies of oxygen, which is why you might also feel more alert after a good belly laugh.

4. It’s a Workout

A good laugh works the muscles in the diaphragm, abdomen, shoulders, and face. Approximately one minute of laughter is equivalent to about ten minutes on the rowing machine.

3. Improves Memory

Laughter has been proven to lower the hormone, cortisol, which is related to stress and has been shown to negatively affect memory and learning ability. A recent study showed people who laugh more have better short-term memory recall abilities than those who did not laugh.

2. Makes You More Attractive

Laughing makes people more approachable in social situations. It makes you more comfortable, and since laughter is contagious, it makes others feel better too. Studies show that women find men with a good sense of humor to be more attractive, and on the flip side, men are more attracted to women who laugh at their jokes.

1. Makes You Happier

Laughing produces a general sense of well being and helps you keep a positive, glass half-full outlook on life even in difficult situations, disappointments, and loss. Laughter helps us gain a new perspective, which increases hope and elevates your mood.

10 Signs You’re Dating A Great Guy Who You Shouldn’t Let Go Of

$

We may meet many men in our lifetime, but when you meet a great guy, you shouldn’t let him go.

Here are 10 Signs You’re Dating A Great Guy Who You Shouldn’t Let Go:

1. He listens to you

I’m talking about actually listens to you, and hears what you’re saying. He doesn’t interrupt you, and he understands where you are coming from- given that you explain yourself in the right way. This entails listening when it comes to anything- when you’re talking about your day at work, a friend who upset you, or something in the relationship that you want to discuss.

2. He doesn’t tell you what you should and shouldn’t do

This is a big one, because someone who tells you what to do can be a controlling person, and no one can actually control another human being, so if he controls you, that is a bad sign. A supportive guy will offer his advice only if you ask for it; Nothing is worse than someone giving you advice when you didn’t even want it in the first place.

3. He doesn’t make you feel bad if you happen to cry

Sometimes guys can be very insensitive, not to say that women cry all the time because this is certainly not the case, but if we happen to get upset over something, the worse thing is to have our boyfriend or husband make us feel bad about it.

4. He lets you be you

This means flaws and all. It is important in a relationship for both people to accept one another for who they are, and not try and change them. A good person for you is someone who has seen you at your worst, and your best, and loves you either way.

5. He is there for you

If you are upset about something, or are just having a bad day, he is right there with you- doing whatever he can to make you feel better, because your happiness is important to him.

6. He is interested in spending time with your family

Whenever you suggest doing something with your family, or inviting him to spend time with your family, he is on board with it. He doesn’t shy away from your family, or somewhat touch questions that can possibly be asked to him. He knows that your family is important to you, and he makes an effort to get to know them.

7. When you are pmsing, he doesn’t run for the hills

As women, it is only normal that we get our periods, and along with that comes somewhat bitchiness. We actually really can’t help it, no matter how hard we try and keep it under control. So when we get our friend of the month, we have the right guy if he isn’t scared of us, and doesn’t take our temporary bitchy and emotional self to heart.

8. He is the only person you need to have a good time with

Of course you will have other people in your life- family and friends, but when you are with your man you have the best time. You might actually prefer to spend more time with him because he truly is your best friend. You guys laugh a lot, and smile, and can talk about anything- because you genuinely enjoy each others company.

9. You can have fun with him doing nothing

This is really important, because sometimes people have more fun when they are around others with their significant other or out and about. The real test of your love will be how the two of you are at home, or relaxing doing nothing, watching a movie, and in situations where there is not a lot going on. It will prove how strong your connection, chemistry, and attraction is.

10. You can’t stop thinking about him

While this may be a given, I still must include it, because when you are with a guy who you really love, you cannot get him off of your mind. No matter how hard you try, he is always the first one you think about when something funny happens, or when you just want to talk to someone. You miss him constantly when you are not with him, and you want to be with him all the time.

When it’s all said and done, you can have the most amazing guy, but you also have to be amazing to him as well- it is a two-way street, and neither person is more important than the other- both are equal.

If you find a guy that embodies all of these things, you are doing pretty good. And I’m sure for any of you who are with a great guy, he probably has many more good qualities than just the ones we mentioned. Please share them with us!

foods-clear-skin-art

After a long winter of dry and flaky skin, we’re all a little desperate for that summer glow to return. But did you know that the foods you eat have an effect on your skin?

There are a ton of healthy foods that you can add to your diet to counteract your problem area, from blemishes, to redness, to wrinkles. Dr. David Bank, a dermatologist from Mount Kisco, NY, told Fitness Magazine that there are 10 easy and tasty foods you can add to your diet to help improve the overall look of your skin. These 10 foods will have you looking and feeling fresh in no time.

Chocolate

1. Chocolate

As if you needed another reason to eat chocolate, the sweet treat is proven to help get glowing skin. Be sure to choose squares that are at least 70% cacao, and you’ll see firmer and more supple skin in no time.

2. Yogurt

If you’re looking for a long-term fix for wrinkles, look no further than the dairy aisle. Yogurt has a ton of protein that helps to firm skin–and Greek yogurt is reportedly twice as helpful.

pomegranate

3. Pomegranate

This fruit helps to protect skin because of the polyphenol antioxidants, which help to regulate blood flow in the skin. So if you need some rosiness in your cheeks, try a few glasses of pomegranate juice daily.

walnuts-and-shells

4. Walnuts

For those looking for a softer complexion, the omega-3’s found in these nuts will help improve elasticity. And walnuts are the best nuts because they are also full of copper, which boots collagen.

peppers

 5. Peppers

Specifically, yellow and orange bell peppers are a great choice for two reasons: women who eat these colored veggies tend to have less wrinkles (specifically crow’s feet) AND they can help reduce sun sensitivity.

sunflower seeds

 6. Sunflower Seeds

If you crave brighter skin, try eating a handful of these seeds daily. The vitamin-E loaded in each seed helps protect the outer layer of skin from sun damage, so your skin will stay supple all summer long.

21Kidney-beans

7. Kidney Beans

Finally, a zit-treatment that starts with your diet! Low zinc levels tend to lead to more blemishes, and these little beans are packed full of zinc. A four ounce serving daily can help clear up your skin.

edamame-nutritive-value

8. Soy

For a more even completion, a soy latte or a handful of edamame can go a long way. Soy has been shown to reduce hyper-pigmentation, so one cup daily can make a big difference.

oatmeal

9. Oatmeal

But only if you choose the steel-cut kind. The less processed version keeps more vitamins in tact and keeps your blood sugar down, which has been shown to prevent wrinkles.

green tea

10. Green Tea

Studies have shown that this tea variety combats redness and inflammation. One cup daily can help you keep your skin tone even all day long.

But these ingredients are not limited to your diet. There are a ton of topical skin products made with each of these healthy foods. For product suggestions from Dr. Bank, visit fitness magazine.

When you think of the most astounding celebrations and festivals around the world, you might think of the running of the bulls, or La Tomatina, the largest tomato fight on earth, however, those festivals don’t even begin to scratch the surface of the wildest celebrations.

Take a look at the top nine craziest festivals from around the world.

9. Takeuchi – Japan

The Takeuchi festival occurs every year on February 15 as a way to pray for a good harvest season. The town is divided into two groups, the North and the South, and then fight by hitting each other with long bamboo poles. If the North wins, it is believed that there will be a good harvest of rice, but if the South wins, the price of rice is said to go up for that season.

8. San Juan de la Vega – Mexico

This crazy festival occurs every February in San Juan de la Vega, Mexico, as a celebration and reinactment of a 400 year old battle in honor of Juan aquino de la Vega, the towns namesake. The festivities include attaching explosives to the ends of sledgehammers and slamming them into the ground. Unsurprisingly, people are injured every single year during the festival celebrations.

7. Manasa Devi Festival – India

The Manasa Devi Festival happens every year around June to honor the Hindu goddess of snakes, Manasa Devi. The people of Jharjhand pay homage to the goddess, who is often worshipped for the prevention and cures of snakebites as well as infertility, by applying an herbal concoction all over the body, ingesting Eklavi to protect from poison, and then placing cobras on themselves to be bitten by the venomous snake.

6. Agni Keli – India

Agni Keli, also known as the Festival of Kateel Durga Parameshwari Temple occurs each year in Mangalore, India over the span of eight days in April. On the second night of the festival, hundreds of people gather at the temple of Durga to throw burning palms at each other to appease the Hindu goddess Durga.

5. Lantern Festival (Molten-Iron-Throwing) – Nuanquan, China

The Lantern Festival occurs during each full moon after the Chinese New Year, and as the legend goes, the villagers of Naunquan couldn’t afford fireworks, which were used to scare off demons during the annual Lantern Festival, so local blacksmiths melted down scrap iron and threw it against walls to produce an incredible pyrotechnic show. The local men who put on the hour long performance wear only sheepskin coats and hats to protect themselves from the molten iron. Amazingly, injuries are uncommon during the show.

4. The Monkey Buffet Festival – Thailand

The Monkey Buffet Festival was invented in 1989 by a local man as a way to attract tourism to the Lopburi province. The festival is held each year for the 3000 monkeys that live in the area. 4000 kilograms of vegetables, cakes, fruits, and candies are put on tables in a pyramid or on a mat in front of temples for the monkeys to feast on.

3. Argungu Fishing Festival- Nigeria

The Argungu Fishing Festival is a four day event in the north-western Nigerian state of Kebbi. At the sound of a gun, thousands of fisherman who have lined up with traditional nets and gourds run into the river, and have just one hour to catch the biggest fish.

2. Moose Dropping Festival- Alaska

The Moose Dropping Festival in Talkeetna, Alaska first dates back to 1972 as a way to attract tourism. The idea was based off other animal themed festivals that occur around the country, but instead of focusing on Alaska’s state animal as a whole, the festival is dedicated specifically to its poop. First they go searching in the forest and collect the droppings, and then they bake them in an oven and spray the droppings with varnish.

1. Baby Dropping Ritual- India

The 700 year old ritual occurs every year with hundreds of infants being dropped from the roof of a mosque near Sholapur, India. Hundreds of people take part in the ritual that is believed to ensure good health and prosperity for the families involved. The infants are tossed off the rooftop and caught below in a bed sheet.

What is a beautiful woman? Is she just aesthetically beautiful? Is it her hair, her skin, her face, her body, or is it her inner self?

I am referring to an internally beautiful woman, not just one with a beautiful face, or body, as everyone judges beautifully differently. I am referring to someone who has an aura about them, someone who people want to be around, someone who embodies all things beautiful- a beautiful soul, mind, and spirit.

Here are LifeDaily’s 10 Things That Make You A Beautiful Woman:

1. You are comfortable in your own skin

You are most definitely comfortable in your own skin, and you are proud of who you are and are not afraid to let the world know. You are comfortable with your body, and your mind and know your strengths and your weaknesses, but you don’t judge yourself too harshly.

2. You have grown into yourself

You are poised, you are articulate, you are mature and you are proud of it. Maybe you are on the shy side, or maybe you are a little more outspoken, but no matter how you are, you embrace it, and do your best to put your best foot forward to the world.

3. You are caring

You are not just all about yourself, you care deeply about others, especially those close to you. You are there for the people in your life when they need you, and you are there for them when they don’t need you. You check in with your loved ones and see how their day was because you just care- and the people in your life feel that.

4. You are nurturing

You nurture those around you, especially your family. You are comforting, you are warm, and most importantly genuine. You cherish those in your life, and value those close relationships that you have.

5. But you are still independent

You have your own career, your own goals and dreams, and your own ideas for what you want for your life. You don’t need anyone, but it’s nice to have happy and loving people around you.

6. You are passionate

What definitely makes you a beautiful woman is your passion. Not only do you have things that you are passionate about, but you prove yourself to be a passionate woman in general by the way you walk, talk and move, which is by the way something that men love!

7. You smile a lot

You are rarely frowning, because what is the point- you are too happy. You wear a smile all the time, as it’s your best accessory.

8. And laugh

You are constantly laughing, as you know it’s the best medicine. You also know it attracts people to you- just as a smile does. Laughter is contagious, and there’s nothing you’d rather be doing.

9. You are expressive

You don’t hold things in, and you speak up when you need to. You are not afraid to share what’s on your mind, or in your heart, and you know that in doing so, it will just make people around you understand you more.

10. You value those close to you

You many not have many friends, but the friends you do have, you hold very dear to you. You care about them a lot and their well being, and you are not just all about yourself. You pay close attention to how your close friends are doing and what is going on in their lives, because it is important to you.

11. You are happy

You can fake a smile, and you can fake a laugh, but you can’t fake happiness. Happiness truly comes from within, and it takes a lot of internal work that you are dedicated to everyday.

12. You are positive

Nothing is worse than a pessimist, which is the opposite of you who is an optimist.  There is no room for pessimism in your life, and as the beautiful woman you are, there is only room for positive vibes.

When you think of selfies, you probably think of the Kardashians (mainly Kim), and endless images of girls puckering their lips, and batting their eyelids (among other things).

Out of curiosity to see which states take the most selfies, a survey was carried out by the “selfie social network” ON.com. When the results came out, everyone was ridiculously surprised, because states like New York and California weren’t even on the list!

The states that did make the list shocked everyone. Here are the top 5 states that take the most selfies:

4. Jackson, Mississippi: 5.63 selfies per user

Yes, this is the Jackson Mississippi mentioned in the hit song Uptown Funk:

Stop, wait a minute
Fill my cup, put some liquor in it
Take a sip, sign a check
Julio, get the stretch
Ride to Harlem, Hollywood
Jackson, Mississippi
If we show up, we gon’ show out
Smoother than a fresh dry skippy

5. Lansing, Michigan: 5.61 selfies per user

Maybe they’re taking so many selfies in these states because there’s not as much to do there.

ON.com’s CTO Kevin Deegan:

“We can now see that the recent selfie takeover has accrued in every corner of the country.”

Are you shocked that your city wasn’t on the list of the top 5 states that take the most selfies? If so, share in the comments below.

From Stardom to Sidewalk – 19 Homeless Celebs

This Amusement Park Prank Is Funny, But Definitely Messed Up

prank

What this guy does to his friends at an amusement part is pretty funny, but also pretty messed up.

Unfortunately, the best pranks are the ones that involve a lot of fear in the person being pranked.

In this prank, all the friend did was toss a single metal bolt onto the base of a slingshot ride literally one or two seconds before the ride launched. By tossing this bolt he scared the living daylights out of his friends, who actually thought they were going to die!

Luckily for them, their fear only lasted a couples of seconds, and I’m sure they were fine once they realized they didn’t die.

That split second however, when the boys thought they were actually going to die, probably felt like a lot longer to them.

5 Ways to Know You’re On the Right Path

Following your dreams requires leaving behind the stability and embracing the unknown. On your journey to achieving your goals, you may have been thrown a few curve balls that have made you question everything.

Take a look at the top five signs that you’re on the right path.

5. You’re confident

Confidence can manifest in a variety of ways, but as you work toward achieving your goals, you feel confident in yourself and the work that you’re doing. You trust the process and are still able to be confident even when things aren’t going your way. Others may question your decisions, or be unsupportive, but you know that you’re doing what’s best for yourself.

4. You’re having fun

When you’re job stops feeling like work and starts feeling more like fun, you know you’re on the right path. A job might be tough, but if you find something that fulfills and excites you, it’s all worthwhile.

3. You invest in yourself

Spending some of your hard earned cash on yourself is healthy and allows you to be the best version of you. Some people see treating yourself as indulgent, but you know that finding time for yourself will benefit you both personally and professionally.

2. You trust your instinct

On your path towards your dream, you have made decisions that were risky, rewarding, or just plain wrong. These successes and failures have taught you to follow your head, heart, and gut. You’ve said ‘no’ to opportunities that just didn’t feel right, and you’ve learned that no one will believe in you or your decisions if you don’t.

1. You’ve failed

Failing is arguably the most important sign that you’re on the right path. Anyone can thrive when things are going their way,but the truth is, if you can make it through the hard times, you learn to appreciate the small things and learn to never take things for granted.

Have you experienced any of these things? Share with us below.
