Dangerous Roads Story

The world is covered with treacherous highways, mountain passes, and hidden streets even the most experienced drivers would have trouble navigating. But normal people drive these roads every day. After looking at some of these streets you would think these people must be fearless, or crazy. It’s astounding what some people will do when they have to get from A to B…

Nonetheless, they drive them. Crazy right? Here’s a list of the 35 most dangerous streets in the world…

R504 Kolyma Highway, Russia

Dangerous Roads Story
  Missy Leone / Wikipedia

Also known as “Old Summer Road,” this stretch of highway in far eastern Russia proves to be a challenge for even the most experienced motorcyclists and 4-wheel drivers as it’s not paved. And surrounded with impossibly thick vegetation mixed with constant precipitation means visibility is always very, very low.

Cotopaxi Volcano Road, Ecuador

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

The Cotopaxi Volcano remains active in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador, making this unpaved 25-mile stretch leading to Cotopaxi National Park quite dangerous.

Transfagarasan, DN7C, Romania

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This is a paved mountain road crossing the southern section of the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. The scenic views are what draws the curious tourist, but the high altitude and winding twists and turns landed this road on our list.

Ruta 5, Africa to Iquique Road, Chile

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This road is so monotonous and boring that drivers tend to lose focus, sometimes even falling asleep at the wheel. So although it’s not as scenic as some other roads on this list, it is still equally as dangerous.

Zoji La Pass, India

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This is a road very busy with farmers moving livestock, often requiring them to make two lanes of the one-lane pass. Even though it’s not particularly difficult to navigate, it’s a very busy way to take and can test a driver’s resolve. Any driver who doesn’t plan their route through this pass beforehand will regret it…

The Road to Fairy Meadows, Pakistan

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

The 10-kilometer stretch of road leads to what is known as the “killer mountain”. What makes it dangerous is how narrow the road becomes in some areas, although anyone who travels it will notice its remarkable beauty.

Patiopuolo-Perdikaki Road, Greece

Dangerous Roads Story
  Ser Pappas / YouTube

This narrow, windy pass it particularly dangerous due to low maintenance and very few guard rails. If the weather happens to be bad on any particular day, it can make this road almost impossible to navigate.

Luxor-al-Hurghada, Egypt

Dangerous Roads Story
  Oleg Znamenskiy / Shutterstock.com

Not only is this road unpaved, it’s susceptible to bandit raids and other robberies. If traveling this road at night, drivers would be smart to leave their lights off and remain unseen by the potential thieves in the area.

US Route 431, United States

Dangerous Roads Story
  Hammerclaw / Wikipedia

As scenic and serene as this road appears at first, it can often be quite the opposite. Narrow lanes and fast lane changes require a driver’s complete attention on this road at all times.

A537, United Kingdom

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Nothing about this road in the United Kingdom looks particularly dangerous. Indeed, it can be described as rather bland. But the high amount of car crash deaths has earned the road the nickname “The Widow Maker,” which is why it made our list.

A44, United Kingdom

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This road is responsible for so many head-on collisions that we had to include it. What makes it so dangerous is that this road actually changes which side of the road a driver is supposed to drive on, making it quite confusing for UK drivers.

Sichuan-Tibet Highway, China

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This highway is subject to avalanches, rock slides, and bad weather, making it highly dangerous to begin with. Even more daunting is the fact that road deaths have doubled on this highway in the last two decades.

Stelvio Pass Road, Italy

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This road doesn’t even stretch two miles long, but contains so many narrow twists and turns that even the most-experienced drivers will have trouble on it. That said, the view from this road is gorgeous.

Hana, Hawaii

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Another beautiful route, this tropical road is surrounded by lush foliage, a mountain on one side and an ocean on the other. Be careful though, because this narrow road is also vulnerable to landslides.

The Trans-Siberian Highway, Russia

Dangerous Roads Story
  Mike1979 Russia / Wikipedia

This is one of the longest stretches of highway in the world, and by not being paved it can be one of the most dangerous. If it happens to rain, drivers can be trapped for hours in muddy ditches, sometimes even days.

Le Passage du Gois, Franc

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

It doesn’t take much to argue this road being one of the most dangerous in the world. At times sections of the road can be completely submerged in water, and even when they’re not, a rogue wave can knock a driver completely off course.

Caucasus Road, Russia

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Being narrow, in some areas unpaved, and alongside a mountain, this road proves to be very treacherous. Especially if the weather is rainy or snowy.

Yungas Road, Bolivia

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Just looking at this road is enough to deter a driver from going there. Add to that the fact that this road is responsible for between 200-300 deaths a year and it’s definitely a no-go.

Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This crazy road resembles a roller-coaster in some areas, with a side of Atlantic Ocean waves in the mix. Drivers maneuvering this archipelago road would be smart to bring a life-jacket along with them.

Dalton Highway, Alaska

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This is arguably the most isolated road on the planet. Its icy conditions and remote location mean that breaking down on it means you’ll be stranded for hours, maybe days. That can spell disaster in below-zero temperatures.

Eshima Ohashi Bridge, Japan

Dangerous Roads Story
  mstk east / Wikipedia

This bridge was built ridiculously high in order for ships to travel under it. This means that drivers going over it have to face dangerously steep inclines and declines that can prove rather treacherous.

Khardung La Pass, India

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Going through a valley between two mountain passes, this route is very scenic. However, the road is susceptible to rock slides at any moment. Drivers here need to be aware of their surroundings at all times.

Guoliang Tunnel, China

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This tunnel is built in the side of a mountain, is extremely narrow and can prove to be rather dangerous. Photos of this tunnel look really cool, but driving on it is another story…

Apache Trail Scenic Drive, Arizona, United States

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

As one of the most beautiful scenic routes on this list, this trail can draw the eye in a dangerous way. Drivers here are cautioned to drive slow and stay focused on the road, which will undoubtedly prove easier said than done.

Cathedral Ridge, Pakistan

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Like the last entry on this list, this road can be both very scenic and very dangerous. We suggest parking the car and getting out if you want to enjoy the surroundings. If you do it while driving, the consequences can be dire.

Road of Death, Bolivia

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This road lives up to its name as one wrong turn can mean death. On the ridge of a steep cliff covered by greenery, this narrow road is both beautiful and dangerous.

Karakoram Highway, Pakistan to China

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This road contains a mixture of things that make it dangerous. For one, it can be long, straight and boring in some areas, making drivers lose focus on the road. Then, in other areas it has sharp curves and steep cliffs. Everything about this road is dangerous, and in a spectrum of different ways.

Pan American Highway, Alaska to Chile

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

According to Guinness World Records, this is the world’s longest motor road. Throughout its 30,000-mile stretch can be a host of dangerous situations. Anyone planning a trip down this road should plan accordingly.

Karnali Highway, Nepal

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This monstrosity gives even bicycle riders second thoughts. Around 50 people die on this road each year due to patches of slick mud in unpaved areas. The unpaved surface makes for a very slow drive.

Victim River Bridge, Siberia

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

This bridge is rather short, and no deaths have been recorded on it, but that’s because almost no one has the guts to drive on it. All it is is a wooden bridge covered in ice with no barriers, not to mention it’s not even wide enough for a standard modern car.

Commonwealth Avenue, Philippines

Dangerous Roads Story
  Lawrence Ruiz / Wikipedia

This road isn’t on a mountain cliff or in some icy remote region of the world, and is actually quite normal as far as roads go. The problem is that it is so busy that getting into an accident is very common. Thousands of car crash deaths are recorded each year.

Federal Highway 1, Mexico

Dangerous Roads Story
  Cooljuno411 / Wikipedia

This road is dangerous not only because it twists and turns through mountainous terrain, but also because in several states in Mexico, there are no driver’s license requirements. So who knows who you’ll be sharing the road with?

BR-116, Brazil

Dangerous Roads Story
  Dado Photos / Shutterstock.com

Like another road on this list, this one in Brazil is dangerous because of bandits that freely roam the countryside near the road. There are also cliffs and the road itself is very poorly maintained.

Barton Highway, Australia

Dangerous Roads Story
  Bidgee / Wikipedia

Considered the most dangerous highway in Australia, this road is so packed that motorists regularly file complaints about traffic. And the highway’s roundabout causes so many accidents that some people avoid it all together.

Halsema Highway, Philippines

Dangerous Roads Story
  shutterstock.com

Known as the deadliest road in the Philippines, this makes a trip along a steep, twisting mountainside that most people wouldn’t go near even if they had to. It is another on this list that is as beautiful as it is dangerous.

Potentially Dangerous Health Trends You Should Research Before Trying

$
0
0

It seems every day there’s another diet fad sweeping the nation. Everyone is losing weight doing this and that, but how much do we know about these health trends? And how much do they really help?

Before you clean out your fridge and pantry and switch up your workout routine, take a look at this list. We’ve compiled 30 dangerous truths behind some of this era’s most-popular health trends…

“Raw” Water

  shutterstock.com

“Raw” water, for those who aren’t in the know, comes from a lava tube in Oregon. A company called Live Water gathers and sells the water, which it claims has been sitting in the Earth for up to 10,000 years, which makes it purer than bottled water. However, drinking this “raw” (untreated) water has been known to cause terrible stomach aches and even diarrhea.

Fat-Free Everything

  shutterstock.com

Cutting all fats turned out to be a bad idea… In the 1990s, cutting fat from your diet was thought to prevent weight gain, heart disease and even some cancers. But the truth is that cutting out all fat can cause a lot of problems, including fatigue, memory issues, skin problems, and nutrient deficiencies.

Juice Only Diets

  shutterstock.com

The fad here is simple: drink only juice mixed with a regiment of supplements and you’ll detox your body of toxins and other bad stuff. As straight forward as this sounds, science simply doesn’t back it up. Julie Duffy Dillon, a registered dietitian and eating disorder specialist in North Carolina, said: “Our bodies are complex, with a balance of microorganisms that work in conjunction with our GI tract, liver and kidneys to filter, digest and detox our bodies of any unnecessary impurities.” So, this diet is simply unnecessary and can cause gas, bloating, diarrhea, muscle loss and a weak immune system.

Cutting Too Many Calories

  shutterstock.com

In order to lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consumer, which by definition means that if you cut calories from your diet, losing weight will be much easier. While this is true, cutting too many can have negative effects. Removing too many calories puts your body in a state of starvation, which causes eventual weight gain (oddly enough), nutrient deficiencies, bingeing, and even depression.

Vitamin And Supplement Super-Sizing

  shutterstock.com

Vitamins and supplements can surely improve one’s diet, but relying too heavily on them can be dangerous. Since, with these additions to your diet, your body is not getting the associated nutrition from eating the foods that provide these vitamins, vitamin-heavy diets can cause vomiting, diarrhea, numbness, headaches, muscle weakness, blurred vision, and even hair loss…

Assuming Natural Equals Safe

  shutterstock.com

Herbal remedies sound like a good idea, though that’s not always the case. There are very few valid studies that support the idea according to the Cleveland Clinic. Herbal remedies are not put under the same scrutiny as other medicines, and some, like a remedy called “Goldenseal,” can cause heart abnormalities. When it comes to this trend, do further research as these remedies are not tested thoroughly.

Sauna Suits

  shutterstock.com

This quick fix should be a no brainer, but somehow it’s not. Sauna suits make you sweat like crazy, and some think this is good for losing weight. The trouble is, wearing a sauna suit makes your body lose liquid, not fat. This can leave the body extremely dehydrated, cause dizziness, and could even lead to coma or death…

Cutting All Carbs

  shutterstock.com

Reducing carb intake can be good, no one is worse off if they cut out unnecessary snacks like cookies and pretzels. But cutting everything isn’t healthy. Eating healthy carbs from sweet potatoes, squash and beans can be highly beneficial. Complex carbs from these types of foods help brain and body function, and cutting carbs altogether can harm both areas.

Going 100% Vegan

  shutterstock.com

This diet is very, very trendy. And although a raw diet can be healthy, those who go vegan need to be cautious, as eating this way makes it much more difficult for the body to get the nutrients it needs. Unless you have a lot of time to research and meal prep (not to mention a market nearby to buy the required ingredients), veganism may not be for you…

Too Much Protein

  shutterstock.com

Protein is the building block of lean tissue. Your body needs sufficient amounts to be healthy. But, like all things, too much can be a bad thing. Diets too high in protein have been reported to cause kidney disease, kidney stones, osteoporosis, and even some forms of cancer.

Activated Charcoal

  shutterstock.com

This health trend uses charcoal to turn foods a matte black color, and is supposed to detox the body. But beware, not only does activated charcoal detox the body, it also east away at other nutrients in the body. This trend can be useful but also very dangerous, as many have reported it causing gastrointestinal distress. And, if you happen to breath it in, it can cause damage to the lungs as well.

Adding Cinnamon To Everything

  shutterstock.com

Cinnamon has been a healthy part of the Ayurvedic diet for centuries. It’s even mentioned in the Bible and helps manage cholesterol and fight diabetes. But high doses of cinnamon (especially the cheap kind, which is very common in America) can cause liver damage.

Edible Flowers

  shutterstock.com

This trend consists of using small flowers as a garnish for desserts like cupcakes or pudding or on healthier foods like salads. Sure they look pretty, but they can also be very toxic. Some flowers can cause liver failure if ingested, as well as other health issues. If you’re going to make or eat a dessert with a flower on it, best to discard it nstead of putting it in your mouth.

Switching To Coconut Oil Only

  shutterstock.com

Regular oil just sounds bad for you, and it can be. But switching to coconut oil exclusively can prove to be very dangerous as well, even though it’s touted as a healthier alternative to say, vegetable oil. The American Heart Association even said that coconut oil is more dangerous for your health than butter, beef, and pork lard. Coconut oil is 82 percent saturated fat – that’s an incredible amount. Two spoonfuls of coconut oil have more saturated fat than a person is supposed to consume in a day…

Going Gluten-Free

  shutterstock.com

Celiac disease affects some Americans, but a fear of it has launched an entire movement of people trying to be “gluten-free”. But Harvard Health says that a gluten-free diet can result in some serious deficiencies. Cutting gluten means cutting fiber, not to mention important nutrients and vitamins. Gluten-free diets, due to their lack of fiber, have been known to cause type-2 diabetes.

“Clean” Eating

  shutterstock.com

Clean eating is a good thing, at first anyway. This diet isn’t directly dangerous. Instead, it can lead to severe eating disorders, which then lead to reproductive troubles, osteoporosis, and a depressed circulatory system. Be careful not to get too obsessed with “eating clean,” because it can lead to mental health issues later on, too.

Water Bottles

  shutterstock.com

Doctors have been telling us to stay hydrated, but drinking from reusable water bottles all day every day may be bad for your health. Some of these plastics contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a widely used chemical that has been linked with diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and, unsurprisingly, cancer.

Liquid Nitrogen

  shutterstock.com

Using liquid nitrogen in mixed drinks and desserts has been a thing for a while, and no doubt it makes whatever you’re consuming cooler – all puns intended. But it can be highly dangerous as well. Coming in contact with the substance can land you in the ER, and one girl even had to have her stomach removed after drinking a beverage with liquid nitrogen in it…

Too Much Water

  shutterstock.com

It has long been rumored that drinking eight glasses a water a day is preferred. But the more accurate number is 30 – 50 ounces of water a day, which equals five to six glasses. Drinking too much water can overwork your kidneys, leaving you over-hydrated and push excess water into your cells. This can lead to abnormal swelling and even death…

Home-Brewed Kombucha

  shutterstock.com

Kombucha is rumored to help all types of ailments, including high blood pressure, arthritis, and even cancer. But it is the making of this brew that can be dangerous. The brew is highly acidic and therefore, prone to access toxicity if made incorrectly. This toxicity has been known to cause inflamed heart muscles, cardiac arrest, and severe muscle weakness.

Non-Dairy Milk

  shutterstock.com

There are all types of non-dairy milk out there: soy, almond, coconut etc. And though these substitutes can be tasty, they can be dangerous as well. All of these non-dairy milks exclude iodine, which can be found in dairy milk. Iodine deficiencies can lead to thyroid problems in pregnant women and have even been linked to low IQ test scores in children.

Ear Candling

  shutterstock.com

Ear candling is the practice of soaking a fabric tube in wax and inserting it into the ear. Then, the tube is set aflame in an attempt to “pull” wax from the ear. Further, ear candling is also supposed to clear the ear canal of other impurities, helping the body against colds and toxins. But this is patently untrue. Research shows that ear candling does none of this, and in fact can cause a punctured eardrum and burning.

Avoiding GMOs

  shutterstock.com

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) that can be found in grains and other crops alter the host food in an attempt to make it heartier, i.e., contain more of the same nutrients that the food already contains. There are no studies that show long-term negative affects of avoiding GMOs, so if you don’t like eating them that’s fine. But eating food with GMOs is also perfectly healthy. The danger with GMOs is that some companies put “Non-GMO” on products as a marketing ploy to make consumers think certain products are healthy. But just because something does not contain GMOs doesn’t make it healthy…

Placenta Pills

  shutterstock.com

This one is for new moms. These pills are rumored to boost energy, prevent postpartum depression, increase milk production, and balance hormones. But the fact is, the pills dehydrate the organ, and can therefore destroy beneficial hormones and other chemicals it may contain. Consult with your doctor before you start taking these.

E-Cigarettes

  shutterstock.com

This fairly new craze has captured the attention of many teenagers. As a rumored “healthy alternative to smoking,” electronic cigarettes have proven to result in many teens picking up the habit of smoking as adults. There is no evidence that says e-cigarettes changed smoking habits in a good way, and in fact it’s often the opposite.

Cupping

  shutterstock.com

Perhaps you may have seen athletes with suction cup marks on their bodies – this was popular during the swimming events of the 2018 Summer Olympics. This ancient eastern treatment breaks blood vessels in the skin, leaving a hickey mark on the body. It is said to stimulate blood flow and tap into the lymph system to help remove toxins. But numerous studies have proven this to be untrue, meaning this practice just plain hurts and not much more…

Oil Pulling

  shutterstock.com

This is the practice of swishing coconut or sunflower oil in your mouth for 20 minutes, and is rumored to help prevent cavities, freshen breath, and leave mouths cavity-free. The truth is that this is untrue, and those who substitute brushing and flossing with oil pulling leave themselves susceptible to all of those things they think they are preventing.

Extreme Fasting

  shutterstock.com

Some people try going on a water-only diet for days at a time. This is extreme and quite harmful. Many experience dizziness, fatigue, and cardiovascular problems from long periods of fasting. This has also been known to break down muscle.

The “Blood Type” Diet

  shutterstock.com

This practice dictates that, depending on your blood-type, you should only eat certain foods. The catch here is that the diet is highly restrictive and quite complicated. No evidence suggests that this diet will help you lose weight. In fact, the only thing this diet is known to do is leave your body deficient of certain nutrients.

“Hot” Fitness Classes

  shutterstock.com

You’ve probably heard of “hot yoga”. It’s perhaps the most popular health trend that falls into this category. Although you probably sweat a lot while you do it, which for some reason equates to good health in most people’s minds, this practice can leave you extremely dehydrated and susceptible to heat stroke.

Hormone Injections

  shutterstock.com

There is a diet called the HCG Diet that requires injections of the hormone chorionic gonadotropin while restricting your calorie intake to a mere 500 calories per day. This is rumored to “reset” your metabolism but couldn’t be more untrue. Although this diet has resulted in short-term weight loss, the long term effects are not the same. The long-term effects are that your metabolism actually slows down and you begin to lose muscle mass. You may want to think twice before trying this diet.

30 ‘Healthy’ Foods That Nutritionists Never Eat

$

In recent years, more people have become increasingly concerned with taking better care of themselves, and marketers have noticed. As a result, almost every label you see at the grocery store now comes covered in buzzwords like ‘natural’, ‘healthy’, or ‘superfood’ in an attempt to make everything you’re eating look healthier than it really is.

Yet if you actually look at the ingredients, you’d see that these so-called ‘health foods’ are really just junk food in disguise. To save you some time, we’ve created a list of 30 foods that nutritionists are begging people to avoid…

Açaí Bowls

  shutterstock.com

Açaí bowls seem like a healthy snack, but they can be extremely high in calories and sugar when loaded with toppings like granola, nut butters, coconut, and fruit.

Coconut Oil

  shutterstock.com

Coconut oil is full of saturated fat. While some claim saturated fat isn’t bad for you, the jury is still out on the popular oil. As a result, nutritionists recommend using monounsaturated fats like avocado or olive oils instead.

Flavored Yogurt

  shutterstock.com

Flavored varieties of yogurt are almost always packed with sugar and artificial flavors.

Boxed Vegetable Pastas

  shutterstock.com

The difference between normal pasta and vegetable pasta are so small that it really doesn’t make a difference for your health. Instead, try substituting pasta with spiraled vegetables or spaghetti squash.

Flavored Instant Oatmeal

  shutterstock.com

Many instant oatmeals that are flavored are typically loaded with sugar and sodium. Ideally, instant oatmeal should have less than six grams of sugar and 140 milligrams of salt per serving.

Packaged Smoothies

  shutterstock.com

Not only are pre-made smoothies often packed with sugars, fat, and calories, but they typically don’t keep people full for long.

Pretzels

  shutterstock.com

Even if they may be considered a healthy snack, pretzels are a refined carbohydrate, which means they are basically made of sugar. Aside from not having any nutritional value, they are easy to overeat since they aren’t very filling.

Veggie Chips

  shutterstock.com

No matter what the chip is made of, even “veggies”, a food fried in saturated and trans fats isn’t doing anything good for your health.

Diet Soda

  shutterstock.com

Diet soda saves you from calories and sugar, but the sugar substitutes and artificial flavors can be even worse for your health.

Protein Cookies

  shutterstock.com

Protein cookies might appear to be healthier, but they really aren’t any better than a typical processed baked good.

Granola

  shutterstock.com

Packaged granola is often loaded with fats and sugars. Not to mention, just a single serving often contains hundreds of calories making the ‘small’ snack not so small.

Protein Bars

  shutterstock.com

Protein bars are highly processed and contain artificial flavors and hidden sugars. They are also meant to be a meal replacement, yet fail to keep people full for long.

Canned Whipped Cream

  shutterstock.com

While it seems like a light addition to a dessert, canned whipped cream is full of high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, and artificial flavors.

Reduced-Fat Nut Butters

  shutterstock.com

Fat-free or reduced nut butters like peanut butter are packed with extra sugar and often have the same amount of calories as natural versions.

Diet Freezer Meals

  shutterstock.com

Not only are frozen diet meals pumped with sodium as a preservative, but they fail to keep people full for long because they lack enough filling vegetables and whole grains.

Vegetarian Meat

  shutterstock.com

Veggie burgers and fake meats are typically made with questionable processed ingredients like soy, xantham gum, and canola oil.

Beef Jerky

  shutterstock.com

In order to preserve the meat, jerkies are loaded with preservatives like salt, which leads to water retention and bloating as a result.

Fat-Free Salad Dressing

  shutterstock.com

Many vitamins in salads actually need fat to be absorbed and used by the body, so a bit of regular dressing isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Without any healthy fats, you can actually miss out on many nutrients that are in greens and vegetables.

Fat-Free Frozen Yogurt

  shutterstock.com

Like other fat reduced foods, fat-free yogurt can have almost twice the amount of sugar as full-fat options.

Gluten-Free Snacks

  shutterstock.com

Just because it’s gluten-free, doesn’t mean it’s healthier. In fact, packaged gluten-free snacks are often full of added sugars, salt, and saturated fats.

Veggie Straws

  shutterstock.com

Veggie sticks and straws aren’t actually very nutrient-dense and are about as healthy as regular potato chips.

Juice

  shutterstock.com

Packaged or even fresh juices are extremely high in sugar and lack the fibers that whole fruits provide that help regulate blood sugar and keeps you full.

Agave Nectar

  shutterstock.com

Many packaged agave nectars are highly processed and high amounts of the sweet syrup can actually strain the liver since it goes straight to the organ instead of raising blood sugar.

Bottled Coffee

  shutterstock.com

Pre-made coffees, including some cold-brew coffee, and teas are normally full of added sugars and can be unnecessarily high in calories.

Fat-Free Cheese

  shutterstock.com

Not only are they not satisfying, but fat-free cheeses are typically full of saturated fats.

Light Mayo

  shutterstock.com

While light mayo has half the calories, sugars and other processed ingredients are added to make up for the flavor.

Canned Soup

  shutterstock.com

Canned soups are often extremely high in sodium and often less nutritious than fresh soups made at home with fresh ingredients.

Trail Mix

  shutterstock.com

Not only are packaged trail mixes often full of sugar, salt, oils, and literal pieces of candy, but people often forget how small a serving size of trail mix actually is.

Kombucha

  shutterstock.com

While trendy, kombucha is fermented yeast. While fermented foods can be good for you, fermented yeast isn’t a great idea for most people with an overgrowth of yeast in their digestive tracts.

Store-Bought Salad Dressing

  shutterstock.com

While you need some fats to absorb fat-soluble vitamins, pre-made salad dressings are full of cheap filler oils, sugar, and preservatives.

33 Dangerous Cosmetic Trends You Should Definitely Avoid

$
0
0

Over the centuries, people have gone above and beyond in order to appear more beautiful. Vanity has allowed them to endure irritation, discomfort, and in the olden days, unbelievable agony just to look younger and better.

We’ve compiled a list of 34 of the most recent beauty trends and the price some people will pay to improve their looks…

Rib Removal

  shutterstock.com

It doesn’t happen very often these days, but it should go without saying that removing a rib so you can have an impossibly thin waist is a very bad idea. This type of surgery can have dangerous long-lasting effects on the function of internal organs.

Waist Training

  shutterstock.com

These are non-surgical devices worn around the abdomen for several hours a day in hopes to develop an hourglass figure. Unfortunately, they’re so tight that they can suppress blood flow and squeeze organs just the same.

Liposuction

  shutterstock.com

Liposuction, the surgical technique that involves sucking the fat from one’s body, is sort of the standard for cosmetic weight loss surgery these days. Yet widespread as the practice is, it comes with a number of complications including potential fat embolisms that may make their way into blood vessels, clogging them and causing deadly results.

Tummy Tuck

  shutterstock.com

Most liposuction procedures are followed by an abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a “tummy tuck.” Though this technique can make one look thinner and remove excess skin and fat, severe infections and clots can occur post-surgery.

Freeze Away Fat

  shutterstock.com

Recently, doctors have come up with a new method of fat removal called cryolipolysis, which uses freezing temperatures to kill subcutaneous fat tissue. While it doesn’t overtly damage the outside skin, the treatment is still in its infancy and long-term complications have yet to be discovered.

Butt Implants

  shutterstock.com

Sometimes it’s not about reduction of unwanted body features, but enhancement of existing ones, especially these days. Butt implants were all the rage after Kim Kardashian became popular, but like any surgical implants, they can cause a slew of negative side-effects including fatty tissue necrosis deep vein thrombosis in the rear.

Breast Implants

  shutterstock.com

Breast augmentation is much more common but can involve its own risks either long or short term. The somewhat run-of-the-mill surgery can cause chronic breast pain, breast or nipple numbness, capsular contracture, breakage and leakage, and in some severe cases, necrosis or skin death.

Nose Job

  shutterstock.com

Though nose jobs have been used for thousands of years for many different medical reasons, complications can still arise. Abscesses can occur and scars can become present at the surgical site that obstructs the airways. If too much of the cartilage is removed, the remaining cartilage can even break down over time and require additional surgeries.

Arm Lift

  shutterstock.com

If one isn’t happy with the skin or excess fat under their arms they can opt to have a brachioplasty. Unfortunately, surgeries that happen so close to such important arteries can be risky and bleeding, infection, or fatal cardiovascular complications are possible.

Collagen Implants

  shutterstock.com

People have had a fascination with getting plumper, more luxurious lips for a few decades now. The most invasive cosmetic procedure to achieve this involves injecting collagen, or fat from bovine hides, into the lips. Possible dangers for this involve allergic reactions, fat transfer lumps, and scarring.

Lip Plumpers

  shutterstock.com

If you don’t want to go the surgical route, you can always use a device known as a lip plumper to achieve the same thing temporarily. As expected, this over-the-counter method can cause bruises, scarring, and infection, even when used properly.

Age Spot Removal

  shutterstock.com

Getting rid of age spots is something a lot of folks wish they could do and luckily for them, there are plenty of over-the-counter options out there. Effective though they may be, these treatments work by interrupting the formation of melanin and are often made from hydroquinone, a cancer-causing chemical.

Teeth Whitening

  shutterstock.com

Many of us could use whiter teeth, though most of us are unaware that many teeth whitening products and methods can actually be quite dangerous. They contain hydrogen peroxide, which can weaken tooth enamel and make teeth more sensitive and breakable. The more one whitens one’s teeth, the more likely they’ll be to become permanently damaged.

Botox

  shutterstock.com

Many of the trends on this list involve a desire to look younger. One particular Hollywood method involves injecting Botox into one’s skin in order to remove wrinkles. The catch is, these procedures, even the professional ones, involve injecting clostridium botulinum, the bacterium responsible for botulism and a neurotoxin, into one’s face.

Online Botox

  shutterstock.com

Then, of course, there are those who want their Botox on the cheap and opt to order it online and inject it themselves. Don’t just order things online and inject them into your face, you never know what you’re actually getting. Even normal Botox can cause infections, permanent paralysis, or death. We’re no doctors, but we can say unequivocally, don’t do this.

Brazilian Wax

  shutterstock.com

Not all dangerous beauty trends are surgical. Even something as seemingly innocuous as a Brazilian bikini wax can be dangerous in its own ways. Besides the occasional rash or ingrown hair that can occur, you could develop a dangerous, highly spreadable skin infection in your most private of areas.

Brazilian Blowout

  shutterstock.com

Even something as simple as a Brazilian blowout can get you more than smoother, sleeker hair. It’s hailed as a hair-repairing solution but there are risks of allergic reactions and potential asthma attacks as a result of the burning slightly toxic formula used in the process.

Formaldehyde

  shutterstock.com

Some hair straightening treatments actually contain unsafe levels of formaldehyde, a preservative often used by mortuaries to preserve dead bodies. Even trace amounts of this carcinogen can lead to eye irritation, bloody noses, rashes, coughing, and wheezing.

Home Mole Removal

  shutterstock.com

Moles can be pesky, annoying skin blemishes and in the worst cases can even prove to be cancerous. That said, no one should ever try removing them at home by any means, regardless of which famous person swears by the method. Some eggplant extracts and herbal remedies can even leave permanent scars.

UV Nails

  shutterstock.com

No one would ever assume that a manicure would be dangerous, but modern manicures have given way to new technologies and new trends. Gel manicures are very popular these days and though the gel can weaken nails, the real danger lies in the UV lights nail parlors use to set the gel. Excess exposure to UV light has been known to cause cancer.

Tanning Beds

  shutterstock.com

The same is true for tanning beds, which essentially bath our bodies in the same dangerous UV light. Doctors have been telling us for years to wear sunscreen to ward off the sun’s harmful rays, but what’s the point of sunscreen if you’re paying for a tan? Skin cancer is a serious risk for those addicted to tanning beds.

Magic Eraser

  shutterstock.com

People who have opted instead for self-tanning often find themselves a little streaked by the compound. The more “clever” among them have opted to use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on their skin to remove those stains. But this chemical cleaner can cause rashes, itching, skin breakdown or even an allergic reaction.

Skin Bleaching

  shutterstock.com

On the opposite side of the spectrum from tanning is bleaching one’s skin. There are a number of different methods out there but almost all of them use dangerous chemicals in the mix, including hydroquinone, the cancer-causing agent sometimes used to remove age spots.

Anti-Wrinkle Creams

  shutterstock.com

Most anti-wrinkle creams are as innocuous and ineffective as they sound in the commercials. The lion’s share of them work by boosting collagen preventing UV-related aging over time. Ultimately though, they can prove very irritating and cause excessive redness, dryness, and light sensitivity.

Glue to Remove Blackheads

  shutterstock.com

Dermatologists say you should never pop pimples but simply wait for them to heal themselves, but most don’t usually say anything about blackhead removal techniques. While most pore cleansing strips are OK, using glue to remove blackheads as some folks have done, can be disturbingly irritating on the skin and permanently scar.

Home Chemical Peels

  shutterstock.com

There are a number of home chemical peels available on the market. These somewhat easy to apply treatments can be great for skin removal…when applied by a professional. Unfortunately, the ones available at home can cause skin blistering, excessive peeling, and ultimately infection if the exposed skin is not cared for properly.

Deodorant as Makeup Primer

  shutterstock.com

Recently, some clever folks have come up with a brilliant idea to use deodorant to prime their faces for a makeup application. This, according to most experts, is a terrible idea. Considering most deodorants and antiperspirants are used to keep sweat in, this method can result in very clogged pores.

Old Makeup

  shutterstock.com

It isn’t just the average fad treatment that’s dangerous to the average beauty consumer either. Even the healthiest eyes are home to gobs of bacteria. When you dip your mascara wand into the tube and run it over your eyes, it picks up that bacteria and deposits it back in the tube. To protect your eyes, swap your old cosmetics for new ones every three to four months.

Lash Treatment

  shutterstock.com

Speaking of lashes, a new trend that has emerged on the market that involves stimulating eye lashes with something called Latisse. It may save you money on mascara, but the side-effects are as bizarre as the desire to change one’s eyelashes. It’s reported that it can change eye color from blue to brown and can result in itchy eyes and lashes.

Circle Contact Lenses

  shutterstock.com

One of the other odd trends out there came about after Lady Gaga started wearing circle contact lenses for the video “Bad Romance.” These can be purchased online illegally but though they look cool, can deprive eyes of oxygen and cause permanent vision loss or infection.

Scotch Tape Under Eyes

  shutterstock.com

Another eye trend involves using scotch tape or packing tape beneath the eyes to help pull out bags. We don’t need to tell you that the glue used on these industrial tapes can be irritating to the skin and can cause rashes or infection in the eyes and lashes.

Pedicures

  shutterstock.com

Everyone loves to be pampered and a nice, professional pedicure is the perfect way to have your feet look and feel good. Of course, no one ever thinks about the fast-growing bacteria that can accumulate in foot baths in these nail salons and the potential infections that can result on our poor pampered footsies.

High Heels

  shutterstock.com

Last of all is a trend that’s been a normal part of countless women’s beauty regimens for probably most of their lives. High heels may look beautiful and are available in all manner of styles, but wearing them too much can be painful and cause damage to the spine, hips, knees, ankles and of course, feet.

He Was Accused Of 15 Different Types Of Abuse

R Kelly Facts
  www.thehotline.org

Andrea didn’t commit suicide, instead, she sought help from the National Domestic Violence Awareness Hotline. R. Kelly was accused of all but two of the 17 questions they asked regarding her abuse. With Kelly still under scrutiny and police custody, Andrea took her chance. She took money, her kids, and a duffel bag and never turned back.

His Second Marriage Ended In Divorce

R Kelly Facts
  shutterstock.com

The divorce was finalized in 2009, but it wasn’t until 2018 that Andrea came forward to speak on some of the abuses she suffered in the marriage. Some of these included him leaving her hogtied in bed for hours and assaulting her in the back of his Hummer. It was proof enough that something was wrong with R. Kelly.

His Sex Tape Leaked

R Kelly Facts
  Dade County Jail

Kelly’s 2002 arrest hadn’t just been for him possessing child pornography, it had been because the singer’s R-rated R. Kelly Triple XXX child pornography tape had leaked onto the Internet. His life was falling apart, along with his career, and his public image. Soon, other accusers began coming forward.

He Tried To Bribe A Singer To Refute Abuse Claims

R Kelly Facts

A Singer named Sparkle was soon offered a whopping six figures in order to speak on Kelly’s behalf and refute the sexual assault claims. The plan was to tell the press that things were good between them and that no harm had been done. She refused the offer, saying that she wouldn’t sell herself or her niece (the 14-year-old girl on the R. Kelly sex tape) out like that.

When She Denied, Kelly Went To Her Brother

In court, Sparkle explained that she had introduced the girl to the alleged pedophile when she was only 12 and explained Kelly’s six-figure offer in detail and her reasons for refusing it. “I didn’t take the money, because I can’t be bought,” she said. But she admits that her family might have been bought off as her brother-in-law was still playing guitar with him for some time after.

Next, He Tried Bribing His Own Brother

The Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly” brings up many different alleged victims of the singer, many of whom were offered payoffs and who were just like Sparkle, her niece and even Kelly’s younger brother, Carey. Apparently, Kelly offered Carey $100,000 and promised him a record deal to refute claims about R. Kelly’s history of abuse.

He Was Denied Again

According to R. Kelly’s other brother, Bruce, Carey never ended up taking his brother up on the offer. Bruce is one of the few people who seem to be supporting his brother throughout all this. Nevertheless, Kelly’s 2002 troubles only continued as the years went on. Though many of his alleged crimes never made the news.

Photographs Of Him With Underage Girls Emerge

One might think that R. Kelly would have stayed away from any sort of teenage girls after that point, but that was not the case. Child pornography charges and some pretty compelling photographic evidence didn’t stop him from communicating with other teenage fangirls, especially when a slew of teen fans came to cheer him on during his 2008 court proceedings.

Again, He Prayed On A 14-Year-Old

Kelly kept at it, eventually running into 14-year-old mega fan Jerhonda Pace. She and Kelly met many times outside the court and it changed her life forever. Not because she had met her idol, but because the contact information they eventually exchanged would result in a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to Kelly’s suburban Illinois mansion.

In 2009, R. Kelly released an album and held a listening party. Jerhonda Pace was invited to his luxurious home to listen and “hang out” with the singer. After several hours of talking, Jerhonda learned that Kelly had been abused as a child. It was something she could relate too because she too had been abused by someone when she was 4,6, and 8 years old.

“He talked about being molested as well, and he told me he was molested by an older guy in his neighborhood,” Jerhonda explained. “I felt like we had a connection…” Little did she know that Kelly’s admission was little more than manipulation, intended to get her to do what he wanted. Throughout the course of their conversation, Jerhonda eventually confessed that she was a virgin.

He Then Performed Oral Sex On Her

When he heard this, Kelly allegedly responded, “Well, that’s perfect. That means I get to train you and I get to take your virginity…” According to her, he then proceeded to perform oral sex on him and demanded that she reciprocate after.

He Was Suspected Of Literally Kidnapping Girls

Joycelyn Savage, one of those apparently missing girls, originally met R. Kelly in 2015, when she was only 19 years old and attending college in Atlanta. The last time Jocelyn’s parents have spoken to her was in 2016, when she was featured in a TMZ video and claimed she was okay and wasn’t being held against her will.

One of Kelly’s former employees, who has chosen to remain anonymous, believes that Kelly scripted the TMZ stunt in order to keep the public off him and out of their lives. He also claims that Kelly doesn’t allow any of the alleged multiple girls at his home to say anything that he has not told them to say. This includes contacting their families.

He Allegedly Ran A Sex Cult

R Kelly House Story

R. Kelly has been a pretty popular topic of conversation for the better part of a decade, but recently, a documentary into his life has seen the Grammy-winning singer’s secret life thrown into sharp relief for all to see; including the authorities.

Much of what is said about Robert Sylvester Kelly involves the allegations of abuse that happen behind the closed doors of his lavish homes, one of which has recently gone on the market. In the meantime, the house remains a standing symbol of what could very well be a very sordid legacy…

Lakeview Home

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

Grammy winner R.Kelly’s former Lakeview home in Chicago is up for sale. This seemingly innocuous revelation comes at a rather opportune time, considering that the singer is now the subject of a tell-all documentary about his secret life and affairs.

Asking Price

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

The house is worth a cool $3.89 million. Of course, the hefty price tag on this particular mansion isn’t just for the beautifully appointed spaces within, but the notoriety of its former owner.

Equally Famous

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

Of the many rooms in the famous house, it’s the Colorado Room that is perhaps the most well-known to the those familiar with R. Kelly’s sordid legacy. It is in this room that Kelly allegedly made a sex tape with a very underage girl; a sex tape that went viral in 2002.

The Tape

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

The viral video featured a 14-year-old girl who just happened to be the singer Sparkle’s niece, engaging in sex acts with the much older R. Kelly. Yet even though the video was more than proof of illegal acts, Kelly was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008. It wouldn’t be the last we heard of his illicit activities, however.

Converted Church

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

The 12-room home was originally built as a church in 1885. Considering the depraved acts and behavior supposedly committed in that converted house of holiness, one can’t help but see the irony in the situation. Nevertheless, churches have always been important to R. Kelly and his family.

Growing Up R. Kelly

R Kelly House Story
  www.essence.com

Just like his single mother, R. Kelly began his musical career by singing in the church choir.
Kelly grew up in the Ida B. Wells Homes public housing project in one of Chicago’s poorest neighborhoods. Nevertheless, his poor upbringing did little to stifle his ambition.

Fatherless

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Kelly’s father was never really in the picture and though his mother had done her best, the lack of an older male authority figure obviously had some effect on the singer’s developmental years. It made him more conniving and manipulative than most might have assumed.

Under Fire

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

Both the living room and master bedroom feature a fireplace. Speaking of fire, the singer wasn’t just under fire for the affair with Sparkle’s niece, but also the various extramarital affairs and secret liaisons he kept secret from his former wives over the years. One of those former wives was deceased singer Aaliyah.

Underage Marriage

R Kelly House Story
  www.essence.com

At the time of his marriage to the then 15-year-old Aaliyah, Kelly was 27 and the secret ceremony they had in Chicago was only facilitated by way of a fake ID that indicated Aaliyah was 18 years old. This lie, one of many throughout Kelly’s life, only worked for so long.

Unwanted Pregnancy

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Unfortunately, the marriage was rife with further complications from the start. Like the fact that she was potentially pregnant before it occurred. This proved to be a false alarm and once the press got news of the underage union, the marriage between R. Kelly and Aaliyah was annulled in February 1995.

Dodging Questions

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

R. Kelly would go on to achieve varying degrees of success in his career, as would Aaliyah until her untimely death in 2001. Yet for the rest of her career, Aaliyah was forced to dodge questions about her former mentor and the curious nature of their relationship.

Out of Respect

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Since her death, Kelly himself has rarely spoken about Aaliyah. He says that he refuses to do so not just because the two remained close friends after the marriage, but out of respect to her mother and father, who had asked him personally not to mention that part of the tragic young star’s early career.

Rocking the Bedrooms

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

Of all the bedrooms in the house, many once housed the assorted members of what some are describing as a cult of sorts. One of Kelly’s former employees, who has chosen to remain anonymous, claims that Kelly doesn’t allow any of the alleged multiple girls who have lived at his home over the years, many freedoms.

Disallowed

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

This includes forcing them to say what he wants them to say and not allowing them to contact their families without express permission and under supervision. Many of the girls that Kelly has allegedly taken into his home are also presumed to have been underage when they arrived, and therefore impressionable.

Raising the Roof

R Kelly House Story
  www.chicagonow.com

The roof of the Kelly house features a deck and a sauna, where many of the Grammy winner’s potential “sex slaves” were allegedly forced to service Kelly and his friends. There is a theory that all of the women under his care have been allegedly brainwashed by the singer to do only as he desires.

The Kelly Cult

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

There is evidence that those who live with Kelly have a sort of cult-like mentality when it comes to their supposed leader/lover/idol. Many of these rumors are the result of a detailed Internet article about how R. Kelly trapped at least six women, all of whom were looking to break into music, in a personal “sex cult”

Taking Control

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

These women were all seeking guidance and help with their music careers before Kelly allegedly took control of their lives. If the article and the first-hand accounts are to be believed, Kelly dictates “what they eat, how they dress, when they bathe, when they sleep, and how they engage in the sexual encounters that he records”.

Confiscated Phones

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

There are also rumors that the star has confiscated the women’s cell phones and bars all unnecessary contact with friends, family, or access to social media. Many of the parents of these girls and former Kelly employees have said that it appears as though the girls had all but vanished.

Holes in the Case

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Kelly, of course, strenuously denies the story time again and the fact remained that all the women referenced were of legal age. There was also the fact that the man who wrote the article in 2017 had been covering Kelly’s allegations for the better part of two decades.

No Way

R Kelly House Story
  www.tmz.com

21-year-old Joycelyn Savage released a video to TMZ following the story saying “I’m not being brainwashed or anything like that…” Though she would not reveal where she happened to be speaking from in the video or what the nature of her “relationship” to R. Kelly actually was. But that was hardly the end of her story either.

Suing R. Kelly

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Even if Kelly’s current girls don’t seem eager to accuse him, there have been many girls over the years who have brought suits against him. 20-year-old Faith Rodgers sued R Kelly, claiming he unlawfully gave her alcohol, assaulted her and gave her a sexually transmitted disease, and that’s not all.

Denies it All

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Rodgers also said that during their year-long relationship, Kelly made her do humiliating things sexually and called her “nasty, degrading things.” He denied the claims, as he had done many times he was accused of sexual misconduct before that. So many of his denials involve accusations of the predatory pursuit of underage teens.

Victim of Abuse

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Ironically, R. Kelly himself is a self-admitted victim of child sex abuse, the details of which he explains in his autobiography. The long and short of it is that he was raped by an older woman when he was only eight and that she did it again, and again in secret for years.

Too Old

R Kelly House Story
  www.cbsnews.com

Rodgers explained that she was having sex with Kelly in 1991 when she was only 15. At the time, Kelly himself was 24. The relationship only ended when she turned 18. Which may lead some people to believe that R. Kelly is only interested or was only interested in younger teenage girls. Though his M.O. has changed in recent years.

Success and Suits

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Throughout all the accusations, Kelly’s career never seemed to falter at all. He released songs, many of which were successful, he won awards, and he made money; money which he used to fund his lavish lifestyle and multiple houses, including the Lakeview one.

Impressionable Intern

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

In 2001, Tracy Sampson, a former intern at Epic Records, sued R Kelly and accused him of inducing her “into an indecent sexual relationship” when she was 17 years old. She claimed he treated her as little more than a personal sex object before casting her aside. It was the first sign of the emerging scandal.

Controlling Personality

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

During her legal case, Sampson said that Kelly became more and more controlling as time went on. Until he controlled every aspect of her life including who she would see and where she went. They ended up settling out of court for an undisclosed sum, but the groundwork for future cases against Kelly was made.

Two Cases

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Two more cases followed in April and May of 2002. He was sued by Patrice Jones, a Chicago woman who claims he impregnated her when she was underage. She added that she was forced to have an abortion as a result. It was settled out of court and an NDA was signed.

On Video

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

The second woman, Montina Woods, alleged that Kelly videotaped them having sex together without her knowledge. The tape, like the one that eventually got R. Kelly in the hottest water, was circulated and sold by bootleggers under the title R Kelly Triple-X. Woods too settled out of court and signed an NDA.

The Famous Tape

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

It was in June 2002 that the world finally learned about Kelly’s alleged predilections. The video of Sparkle’s unnamed niece involved intercourse, oral sex, urination, and other sexual acts. It was sent anonymously to the Chicago Sun-Times and passed on to police who had their forensic experts examine it before making an arrest.

Six Years in Wait

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Kelly posted a bail of $750,000 and immediately plead not guilty to the charges, but it took a further six years for the case to eventually come to trial. When the jury finally got the chance to deliberate, they concluded that they couldn’t prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that the girl on the tape was a minor and Kelly walked away scot-free.

Confiscated Camera

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Despite eventually being declared innocent, the six years in between saw Kelly facing an immense amount of criticism in the press. It also saw him being charged with another 12 counts of making child pornography in Florida. He was then arrested in his holiday home and police ended up seizing a camera.

Damning Footage

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Footage on the confiscated camera allegedly showed Kelly clearly having sex with what was supposedly another underage girl. Unfortunately, the charges were dropped when the presiding judge agreed with the singer’s defense team, who argued that the police had lacked sufficient evidence to justify a search.

Approaching the Press

R Kelly House Story
  The Real Daytime / YouTube

Despite the fact that the story about Kelly’s alleged sex cult being quashed by its own supposed members, many victims eventually came forward with further allegations against the star. Jerhonda Pace even broke a non-disclosure agreement to speak to authorities about having sex with R. Kelly while she was underage.

Starved for Affection

R Kelly House Story
  Instagram

Then there were the accusations of Kitti Jones, another woman who claimed to have been abused by Kelly. She alleged that the singer had starved her, coerced her into sexual encounters with other women, and physically abused her on more than one occasion.

Common Knowledge

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

Kitti was apparently a member of Kelly’s inner circle and she came forward with others to speak to the BBC in March of 2018. She, along with one of Kelly’s former friends, revealed that it was common knowledge that Kelly specifically sought out women who “looked young” when he was at parties.

New Case

R Kelly House Story

In late 2018, the #MuteRKelly campaign began lobbying for Kelly’s record label RCA to sever ties with the singer. They wanted Kelly’s alleged abuses to be brought to bear and insisted that concert promoters, ticket sellers, and streaming services should all agree to demote Kelly’s songs from their playlists.

Still Performing

R Kelly House Story
  Allgamenab / Wikipedia

Thus far, many of the star’s former entourage have left his employ on the wave of negative press. The star’s lawyer, Linda Mensch, his publicist, and his personal assistant are all among those who quit. Though Mensch says that her departure was unrelated to the allegations against him.

Protests and Opinions

R Kelly House Story
  Wade Jackman / Shutterstock.com

Despite protests outside his shows, Kelly continues to perform live. He has also been filmed stating that the campaign being levied against him was “too late.” That may not be so, as the publicity from the recent Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly” may sway public opinion against him even further.

Infectious

R Kelly House Story
  shutterstock.com

In the meantime, another of the star’s former partners has come forward saying that the star “intentionally” infected her with a sexually transmitted disease. It’s yet another allegation that Kelly vehemently denies, but time will tell if the courts go after him again as more come forward.

90s Things

With everything moving so fast these days, those of us that lived life before the widespread use of the Internet yearn for a simpler time. To think that 1990 was a simpler time (ha!), we must be getting old…

Here’s a list of 40 trends, songs, toys and food that, whether you were a parent or a kid at the time, will bring you back to the 90s…

Multi-Color Pens

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

These little gadgets probably drove our teachers crazy. And you know you tried to push all the colors out at the same time!

Waterfall Ring Toss

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Popular in many a dentist office, these little impossible puzzles left 90s kids entertained for all of … five minutes? This was a holdover toy, originally released in the late seventies, but that goes to show that unlike today, playthings lasted more than a year back then…

Spice Girls

90s Things
  Featureflash Photo Agency / Shutterstock.com

As much as we may cringe at the sound of “If you wanna be my lover…” we can’t deny that we know the next lyric. Rumor has it these feminist icons may be returning to the stage?

Candy Cigarettes

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Apparently back then parents were willing to let their kids pretend they were puffing away. It’s hard to imagine seeing these on the shelf today. Do they still sell these?

Easy Bake Oven

90s Things
  www.amazon.com

Originally released in the sixties, this childhood staple is still sold today. Many a kid appreciated this toy. It definitely brings us back to a simpler time…

Nickelodeon Slime

90s Things
  Jimmie48 Photography / Shutterstock.com

For some reason Nickelodeon introduced the idea of slime and, aptly, it stuck. Did you know the network still slimes people to this day?

Mary-Kate And Ashley Olson

90s Things
  s_bukley / Shutterstock.com

These two were all over the TV and movie scene. As the youngest sibling on the sitcom Full House, and starring in multiple movies including Double Double Toil And Trouble, just hearing the actresses’ names takes us back…

Cory And Topanga

90s Things
  Kathy Hutchins / Shutterstock.com

Seeing these two stumble threw young love taught us that TV romance is almost never the same as romance in real life. But we can still dream, can’t we?

Gameboy

90s Things
  padu_foto / Shutterstock.com

Ask a male 90s friend if they would still play this and their answer will be yes, unless they’re lying to you. Everyone had these (girls too), and we loved them.

CD Players

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

For a short time between tape players and MP3s there were these awkward pieces of technology that cost too much, skipped when you played them, and inevitably broke down way too fast. They were portable CD players … do you remember them?

Skip-It

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Someone thought to invent a toy that allowed kids to jump rope without needing a couple friends to play. It was ingenious and you can still find these toys today. Everyone tried it at least once…

Butterfly Hair Clips

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

A fad like silly-bandz, these accessories could be seen in almost every classroom in the 90s. How many of those girls grew up to get butterfly tattoos? Is there a correlation?

The Backstreet Boys

90s Things
  Featureflash Photo Agency / Shutterstock.com

Boy bands were all the rage in the 90s. The Backstreet Boys’ roller-coaster ride to fame was as fast as it was short, and two decades later we remember at least a couple lines from their hits…

N’Sync

90s Things
  Featureflash Photo Agency / Shutterstock.com

We couldn’t leave out The Backstreet Boys’ counterparts: N’Sync. There was a feud between fans as to which group was better, but pop music is always appreciated more in the moment. And these groups (minus Mr. Timberlake) have fallen out of the spotlight. But they at least enjoyed a fun 15 minutes…

Pogs Or Milk Caps

90s Things
  www.amazon.com

The rules to this game were somewhat elusive and probably depended on who was playing, and where. But we still had at least some fun throwing these things around.

Pokemon Cards

90s Things
  focal point / Shutterstock.com

Pokemon came a long way from a simple card game. Preteens with playing cards evolved into adults playing the game on their smartphones almost 30 years later … perhaps it was reverse-evolution?

Slap Bracelets

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Fun and fashionable, these annoying accessories compare to the more current trend of fidget-spinners, considering how much attention they stole. Did you know they make Yoga mats now using similar technology?

The Macarena

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

We may never know why certain music trends grab us by the ears and don’t let go. The Macarena was one of them. To think that to this day, some music sticks around simply because there’s a dance associated with it … perhaps it’s a part of our souls to dance?

Lite Brite

90s Things
  Keith Homan / Shutterstock.com

The bane of many a parent’s existence, we all remember playing with these toys, but how many can honestly say they remember cleaning them up? This toy required both patience and organizational skills … yet someone thought it would be a good idea to give to young children!

Furby Toys

90s Things
  ArtCookStudio / Shutterstock.com

A marketing marvel, these toys were released around the holiday season and almost every kid wanted one, or several. Like many fads, Furby dolls rose high and fell fast, but the memories these toys left will last and last … probably because more than 40 million have been sold worldwide!

AOL

90s Things
  dennizn / Shutterstock.com

Remember waiting for this service to start? It took so long to dial up, and before you knew it you were kicked off when someone in your house used the telephone. Oh my, how did we live before smartphones?

Tamagotchi

90s Things
  omeus / Shutterstock.com

These little toys taught children the joys and pains of keeping a pet, and also introduced them to the idea of losing one. Kind of dark when put that way, but kids loved these toys regardless. Did you ever own a Tamagotchi?

Dunk-A-Roos

90s Things
  www.amazon.com

Like similar snacks, kids always wanted more cream then there was to dunk in. It was just so good and there were more cookies than stuff to dunk them in. Perhaps that was planned? The only way to get more was to buy more … ingenious.

Blockbuster Video

90s Things
  melissamn / Shutterstock.com

Who didn’t love the family trip to Blockbuster Video? But like CDs and tapes, technology made Blockbuster obsolete, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Floppy Disks

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Long before cloud storage were these things called flash drives, and long before those were these things called floppy disks. You’d be hard pressed to find someone born after the 90s that could name one of these if they saw them. For those of us that remember them, yeah, we’re getting old…

Indoor Inflatable Furniture

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

These things didn’t even last as long as they took to inflate, but they were cool for a few minutes. Sitting on them wasn’t as comfortable as we remember…

The Sandlot

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

The movie was iconic and one of the best of the decade bar none, and that’s including movies for adults and kids both. Kids who loved it wanted a sequel, but when that came out it just wasn’t the same.

That Weird “S” Everyone But You Knew How To Draw

90s Things
  Jack Kingsman / Wikipedia

For some reason in the 90s this S symbolized the epitome of artistic talent. It was at the same time mesmerizing and completely useless. But it brings us back nonetheless, does it not?

Rugrats

90s Things
  Featureflash Photo Agency / Shutterstock.com

Though many could not name a single plot-line, we all remember the show’s characters. Rugrats was the most memorable show of the 90s that no one remembers.

Pencil Sharpeners On The Wall

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

The wall sharpener was the best way to take a break from sitting at your desk, or, as some have memed recently, the best way to show off an outfit. And even thought these may be in classrooms today, they remain a symbol of childhood for kids who attended school in the 90s.

Amoxicillin

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Perhaps the only medicine children didn’t mind taking, Amoxicillin actually tasted good! This bright pink remedy brought many a child a little joy in times of pain…

Etch A Sketch

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

Like the Lite Brite toy above, Etch A Sketch took a lot of patience to get good at, which is probably why a lot of kids played with it for, at most, several minutes at a time. And even though we didn’t know how to use it, we all had one at some point…

Discovery Zone

90s Things
  Tyler Sorensen / YouTube

A competitor to Chuck E. Cheese, Discovery Zone was a place to eat pizza, play arcade games, run around in ball pits, and – this goes more so for the parents – appreciate the small of human feet. The place was a lot a fun at one point…

Goosebumps Books

90s Things
  Faiz Zaki / Shutterstock.com

At some point in the 90s these books were everywhere. They even made a TV show based on them. These quick and fun reads were an excellent way to get kids to read.

Bill Nye The Science Guy

90s Things
  Kathy Hutchins / Shutterstock.com

This show used to be on in the mornings before school, and each episode ended with a Weird-Al-Yankovic-esque parody song that taught kids about scientific principles. Would today’s kids enjoy this program? We think they would, though they might not recognize the song parodies.

Weird Al Yankovic

90s Things
  Featureflash Photo Agency / Shutterstock.com

Known for his parody songs, “Weird Al” was a hit in the 90s. Even though the singer recently got a Hollywood Star, his shtick didn’t last very long.

Ring Pop Candy

90s Things
  Keith Homan / Shutterstock.com

These clever snacks/toys were as delicious as they were messy. It was impossible to eat one without getting it all over your hands. And as annoying as this was, it’s partly the reason we can’t forget them.

Pop Rocks Candy

90s Things
  Keith Homan / Shutterstock.com

Does anyone know what made these things work? Another toy/snack that is rarely seen nowadays, Pop Rocks also came along with an urban myth: don’t eat them and drink soda at the same time … because something bad will happen, or something.

Lunchables

90s Things
  Michael Warwick / Shutterstock.com

To most 90s kids these were a fun treat, and to most parents they were probably expensive, non-nutritious, messy and non-filling ways to feed your kids. How come so many things that kids enjoy, their parents despise? It’s a dynamic that may never be completely understood.

Fruit Stripe

90s Things
  shutterstock.com

This juicy gum was mouthwatering, though the taste didn’t last very long. Before you knew it an entire pack was gone. It’s just another thing that gives us a taste of a bygone decade…

In a world full of overthinking, over-explaining, and overdoing, we need to remember to not complicate things that are naturally simple or easy. Occam’s razor says: With all things being equal, the simplest explanation tends to be the right one. “There seems to be some perverse human characteristic that likes to make easy things difficult.” – Warren Buffett

Money Vs. Morals

Lessons from Millionaires

Many people worry that traveling to Africa can be dangerous for various reasons, but they couldn’t be further from the truth. Namibia, like many other safe travel destinations in Africa, has many exciting sights to see and experiences to have, including five-star hotels, camping, safaris, and so much more. And don’t expect to spend a lot on the delicious cuisine either!

Hurghada, Egypt

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019

Even though tourism in Egypt has suffered in the wake of an unstable government and shaky economy, there are many reasons to visit the beautiful country. Flights to Egypt are more affordable than ever and Hurghada, in particular, has sandy beaches, coral reefs, and breathtaking desert vistas that are well worth the long flight.

Zanzibar

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019

Exotic-sounding Zanzibar may sound like it’s the type of place for an expensive, bougie honeymoon, but it’s much more affordable than you might believe. Flights to nearby Tanzania are cheaper than they have been in recent years so the many beach-side luxury resorts on the island are worth a little extra splurging.

Saint Martin

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

The half French and half Dutch island of Saint Martin had indeed been devastated by Hurricane Irma, but since that time, the tourism industry has been on the mend. As of late October, 2017, the main airport has been restored and with it so have many of the beachfront hotels and resorts; all of which now boast some discounted rates.

Barichara, Colombia

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

Columbia has become popular in recent years for those who want to travel a bit outside their comfort zone. The most popular destination for that seems to be Barichara, a small but beautiful colonial village in the Andes Mountains. Perhaps more enjoyable than the coffee and the nightlife is the fact that Colombians are among the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

Naples, Italy

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019

Jaisalmer, India

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

The Golden City of Jaisalmer is an overlooked, though exceptionally exotic locale simply by virtue of the fact that it’s a 14-hour train ride from Delhi. That, and it also happens to be located in the middle of the desert. It shouldn’t be. Regardless of how affordable everything is, the architecture alone is worth the trip.

Port Salut, Haiti

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

Haiti was once known as“The Pearl of the Caribbean,” but the past few years of hurricanes and earthquakes have done a great deal of damage to the region. Still, the country is rebuilding and the miles of white sand beaches and deep blue sea are more than worth the trip. That’s not even mentioning the fact resort and travel prices to the region are at all-time lows.

Gaziantep, Turkey

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

Despite the fact that it’s partially located in the Middle East, Gaziantep, Turkey is just as stunning as any of the country’s more expensive tourist locations.   Dereje / Shutterstock.com

Senegal is actually one of the most highly-rated African countries for not only first-time visitors to the continent but also those seasoned travelers who are looking to view a more modern city. Dakar itself is easy to navigate, unique among other large African cities, and even backpacker friendly if you’re looking to rough it a bit.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

Kuala Lumpur is a hidden gem that few people have happened upon thus far. Its mix of Asian and Indian influence makes it ideal for enjoying those cultures and trying as many different foods as they can. Thanks to its semi-secret status, it’s still pretty affordable to enjoy, but time’s running out.

The Caribbean

Affordable Travel Destinations 2019
  shutterstock.com

Last but not least we have the Caribbean region, a place that has been devastated by natural phenomena in recent years. Most of the islands in the area are in various states of rebuilding, but that only makes them more willing to offer deals to tourists wanting to take an exotic excursion to somewhere tropical on the cheap.

Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2019

There are plenty of websites that inform tourists of the many wonderful places that they should visit in the coming year. Indeed, if you love to travel, chances are good you’ve already seen plenty of “Places to Travel in 2019” lists already. That said, very few websites warn people of the places they might want to avoid whilst trekking about the globe.

To that end, LifeDaily has scoured the Internet in order to provide you with a list of 40 different places that despite their renown, might not be the best locations to visit in the coming year. If you’re planning a trip for 2019, these are the places to consider avoiding…

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2019
  shutterstock.com

Not every place on this list is here because it’s not “worth” visiting, indeed, many of them are actually here because they already get too many visitors. Amsterdam, a city of much repute, is one such city. More than 30 million people are expected to visit the fairly small city this year. This alone makes it a less than ideal locale for a visit for the time being.

Koh Phi Phi Le, Thailand

Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2019
  Denis Costille / Shutterstock.com

Thanks to its main beach being featured in the movie “The Beach”, this small, Thai island has suffered from a glut of popularity in recent years. It’s most famous beach, Maya Bay, was closed indefinitely in 2018 due to damage caused by millions of tourists. Hopefully it will remain closed throughout 2019 so the area can be repaired and reopened.

Barcelona, Spain

Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2019
  shutterstock.com

There are a number of popular cities out there in the world, like Barcelona, that have been working hard to fight the scourge of over-tourism. In many areas of the ancient, popular city, tourists outnumber citizens and this has given rise to protests and animosity from locals towards Barcelona’s 30 million visitors.

Ibiza

Travel Destinations to Avoid in 2019

Ibiza is also known for receiving a large number of tourists, but the more worrying thing for potential travelers is the fact that the rowdy nightlife can be dangerous for the uninitiated. The island’s hedonistic debauchery has resulted in a number of injuries over the years and should be avoided; unless of course, you’re into that sort of thing.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The popularity of the HBO television show “Game of Thrones” has made the Croatian city of Dubrovnik, otherwise known as Kings Landing, a very popular place to visit in recent years. The city was never meant to receive so many visitors and as such, the influx of tourists has prompted the city officials to limit daily visits and forced locals to change some aspects of their daily routines.

Havana, Cuba

Since President Obama lifted the travel ban on Cuba, cities like Havana have experienced an understandable boom in tourism. Of course, since he came into office, President Trump has made it difficult for Americans to enter the country and the steep dip has hurt Cuba’s economy greatly. It might be best not to visit the island for the time being, at least until relations improve.

Venice, Italy

Up until a few years ago, Rome was always the top tourist location in Italy, but once a few well-informed travel bloggers got a taste for the singular canals and overall uniqueness of Venice. Since then, the city has become overrun. The citizens are understandably frustrated as a result and the tourists have felt the sting as well.

Cinque Terre, Italy

Also in Italy is the popular coastal towns of Cinque Terre. These five tourist hotspots are famous the world over for the towns themselves and the rugged pathways that link them to one another. In recent years though, construction work has restricted travel and that will likely be the case until at least April 2021.

Beijing, China

Beijing has managed to make a number of helpful strides in recent years when it comes to eliminating the ever-present polluting fog that once enshrouded the city. That said, travelers may still want to wait another year or so before they make their way to the still-growing metropolis.

Las Vegas, Nevada

They say what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, but they don’t tell you that a trip to sin city will cost you an arm and a leg, even if you don’t plan to gamble. Las Vegas may have been the cheapest summer vacation of 2018, but the ancillary costs for gambling, drinks, meals, and shows, more than makes up for the cheap travel costs.

Santorini, Greece

Though there are very few places as spectacular looking as Santorini, unfortunately, it seems like every tourist in the world seems to agree with the sentiment. As such, the now overcrowded island reached a breaking point in 2018 and the government has considered restricting the number of tourists that are allowed to anchor in the harbor, at least until things die down.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai has been a vacation hot spot for decades now. It’s a jewel in the middle of the desert but though it appears to be a traveler’s paradise, the United Arab Emirates’ largest city lacks the elements of culture that make other Arabian locales so unique among vacation spots. Perhaps this is due to the more than 70 shopping centers in the city.

New Delhi, India

People love visiting India. They come from all over the world in search of enlightenment or to experience a rich, ancient culture. Unfortunately, the city of New Delhi is already insanely overpopulated and polluted, so an influx of tourists don’t exactly add anything but more pollution and body heat. It was also recently named the most polluted city in the world.

Mount Everest, Nepal-side

Surprisingly enough, hundreds of people a year make the difficult trek to Nepal every year in order to attempt to scale Mount Everest. Nearly 300 people have died trying to climb the immense mountain, six of whom visited the country in 2017. If that doesn’t scare you away, the $300 thousand-plus price tag for the excursion might.

Machu Picchu, Peru

Speaking of climbing, so many people have headed to the ancient Incan city of Machu Picchu in the mountains of Peru in recent years that the tourism board has had to severely restrict who can see the city and when. This means that you may well be very limited in the amount of time you can spend at the site if you do make it up into the mountains.

Cairo, Egypt

Egypt is a singular stop for any tourist wishing to view the great wonders of the ancient world. Yet though it boasts popular monuments like the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Great Sphinx, it also happens to be one of the most dangerous places in the world, especially in recent years.

Acapulco, Mexico

Thanks to the presence of some of the most dangerous cartels on earth, Mexico has become a particularly violent place to visit, one of the most violent places in the world actually. Statistically, Acapulco had a homicide rate of 103 per 100,000 inhabitants. At this point, even the police force has been disarmed on suspicion that they’re involved with the criminal element.

Los Cabos, Mexico

Other cities in Mexico have similar problems and similar crime rates. One of the most popular tourist destinations, Los Cabos, has seen a steep drop in tourism in recent years. Nevertheless, even with strong travel warnings in place, an estimated 40 million people will purportedly be visiting in 2019.

New York, New York

The Big Apple may seem pretty innocuous, especially if you’re a native New Yorker, but many travelers agree that the most visited cities in the world is a good place to avoid. Between the irregular running of subways that are forever under construction, overpriced food, and constant traffic, it’s perhaps best to avoid the place.

Niagara Falls, New York

Niagara Falls is a breathtaking place to behold, especially in person, but don’t let the hype fool you. The falls are nice for about five minutes. After that, you may realize that there’s not much else to see besides a few casinos, chain restaurants, and a long road home after buying some tacky souvenirs.

Galápagos Islands, Ecuador

The Galápagos Islands are among the most unique biomes on the face of the earth. The animals and plants that live there aren’t found anywhere else in the world. It is precisely because of this that the region’s vulnerable ecosystem needs to be maintained, that means restricting travel so that people don’t do irreparable damage to the sensitive ecosystem.

Uluru, Australia

Like New York, Paris is one of those places that a lot of people tend to have on their bucket list. It also happens to be one of the most overrated cities in the world to visit and many seasoned travelers agree that it would be better to avoid the crowds at the Eiffel Tower and head to one of France’s more charming locales in the country.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark, once held the distinction of being one of the Best Cities to travel to. Unfortunately, the widespread news of that title saw to it that the city became overrun with tourists in 2018. The same may be true for this year as well, so as charming and old-world as it may seem, it might be best to wait until the hype dies down.

North Korea

The Gateway City has a great deal to experience if you’re a tourist, from sports to architecture, to one of the largest urban parks in the US. Unfortunately, St. Louis also features the highest homicide rate in the country, one which dictated a number of travel bans in the past few years.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The high crime rates that exist outside of many of Jamaica’s most lavish resorts have seen a significant dip in the tourism trade in recent years. In fact, a state of emergency was declared in 2018 in Montego Bay because of a sudden and worrying spike in homicides in the area. It might be best to find another island to visit in the meantime.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Though it may be a spiritual site for many the world over, Jerusalem remains a risky destination for tourists. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine has been violent for many years and the shift in the location of the US embassy in 2018 made things a bit worse. It might be safer to hold off visiting until animosity in the region levels out.

Cardiff, Wales

Those wishing to visit the beautiful capital city of Cardiff, Wales, may want to pack an umbrella for the trip. They say that London is the rainiest city in Britain, but Cardiff receives an impressive 45 in. of annual rainfall a year, twice as much as London. The castles may be nice, but the musty smell isn’t great.

  Kate McClure / GoFundMe

In 2018, we heard a heartwarming story about Kate McClure and her boyfriend Mark D’Amico, who became friendly with a homeless man named Johnny Bobbitt after he’d spent his last $20 on gas for Kate when her car broke down. Since he’d helped them, they wanted to help him get back on his feet, so they started a GoFundMe and raised nearly $400 thousand for the man.

There was just one problem, they didn’t give him the money. The couple surpassed their goal immensely but ended up only giving Bobbitt $75,000 of the donated funds. The homeless Samaritan then accused them of using the rest as a personal piggy bank. Meanwhile, they are all of them going to court and Bobbitt is still very much homeless. There’s even some proof that it may have all been a scam from the start.

As a result, he received more than 1,000 emails and hundreds of phone calls into his case worker’s voicemail box. He was overwhelmed by the kindness and though he didn’t accept a job off the bat, got many offers from interested parties. He and Moe were soon offered a place to stay in downtown Lafayette and will soon be back on the right path.

The woman, Donna Ogawa, opted to get a coffee and donuts instead of a full meal. A customer watched what was happening and documented the act of kindness so that everyone could see what happens when someone steps up to help. Miss Ogawa herself thanked the good Samaritan and though she is still homeless, is grateful for the attention the viral story has brought regarding her plight.
