Rondae Hollis-Jefferson from the Brooklyn Nets gave his mom the surprise of a lifetime for her birthday.
Rondae and his brother, NBA D-Leaguer Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson dreamed of giving their mother and grandmother a comfortable home they can live in.
Their mother, Rylanda Hollis’s birthday was the perfect opportunity to surprise her and to give her the home she so deserved.
It was a moment to be remembered for the two brothers, and they had a videographer accompany them to film the entire thing.
Rondae had a realtor open the door when his mother arrived, and ask her, “Oh, who are you looking for?” And when his mom said the name, the realtor said, “Oh, OK, come in.” Then everyone popped out and said, “Surprise!” and Rylanda started crying.
She said it was her best birthday ever, and Rondae describes:
“That’s big in our eyes, to be able to do that. Being able to change your mom’s life, to be able to put her in a comfortable situation. … It makes that feeling in your heart go to ease.“
For Hollis-Jefferson, this memory was worth putting himself in a less-than-glamorous living situation. Armed with a new multi-million dollar contract, Rondae is equipped to experience the high-rolling NBA lifestyle, but instead, he seems to be stayed as grounded as possible.
His sensible rental in New Jersey and a real home for the mother who gave him everything will do for now.
