Kitten Receives The Appropriate Name Of ‘Piper’ After Being Rescued From A Drain Pipe

Firefighters in Waukegan, Illinois responded to an odd call last week.

A few days before Christmas, a resident of the Illinois town called the animal control department after hearing strange sounds coming from a drain pipe. It turned out a kitten had fallen into the pipe in the front yard of a home and it couldn’t make its way back out.

Waukegan Fire Lieutenant Steve Berkman and Firefighter Rob McDonald made a tiny lasso to rope the kitten to safety and lift it out of the pipe. The rescue took two hours, but eventually the shivering kitten was safely rescued from the pipe.

The kitten was then taken to the local Animal Control Department, where it was checked for sickness and got a well-deserved bath. Caretakers decided to name the kitten Piper, after the little fluff balls long ordeal with the long pipe. Additionally, they told ABC 7 that it was too soon to determine the kitten’s sex, but he or she appears to be in good condition.

If nobody comes forward as the owner, it will be given up for adoption.
