We’ve seen a lot of incredible animal comeback stories over the years, but there isn’t much out there that can compare to the video below.
Meet Augustus. He’s a dog who overcame incredible odds, but most importantly, he’s a symbol for how a little bit of love can go such a long way when it comes to our animal friends.
When Augustus was brought into the Heart of Alabama Save Rescue Adopt shelter in Killen, this Border Collie mix didn’t look like a dog at all.

Due to his extremely severe case of mange, a skin disease caused by parasitic mites, Augustus was shunned by many, but thankfully the HASRA heroes finally stepped up to help this sweetheart.
Augustus was practically furless when he first started treatment on antibiotics and as we hear in the video below, his dry, painful skin “peeled off like potato chips.”

However, we learn that this brave dog wasn’t angry, bitter or dangerous after his life of abuse. Augustus was grateful and hopeful for his recovery, which made his rescuers feel the same way.
Over time, Augustus’ severe mange started to subside and his fur grew back, healthier than ever before.

It might be hard to look at this angel’s “before” photo, knowing there are countless animals out there like him, but the result of his love and treatment is something worth believing in.
