Over the weekend, snowstorm Jonas hit much of the east coast.
As stories from people weathering the storm flooded into news outlets, none were more touching than the one you’re about to see.
Ashley Monfort, a reporter from NBC12 was covering the storm in Richmond, Virginia, when she noticed a man helping stranded drivers on Midlothian Turnpike. The man’s name was Curtis and after helping seven drivers push out their cars, Monfort discovered the guy was actually homeless!
She posted this to her Facebook:
“We saw many good Samaritans today helping stranded drivers on Midlothian Turnpike. But Curtis has a special place in my heart. We started talking to him where he told me he’s actually HOMELESS and was staying between two buildings.”
When Monfort said to Curtis, “The ironic thing is, you’re homeless,” Curtis responded, “At times people help me out, you know, so, that’s one hand washing the other.” She continued, “Why did you feel you wanted to help these people?” and Curtis said, “It’s the right thing to do, you know. I’m the kind of person — see ’em stuck, I might as well help them. Ain’t no need to walk on by.”
And Curtis couldn’t be more right.
Monfort later wrote that her team gave this kind man some coffee, warm food and money so he could make his way to the shelter, but unfortunately the two did not get to exchange information. She noted,”I was distracted by the snowy conditions and just getting him something warm to eat…I didn’t get his information. But if I see him again I’ll do a follow-up.”
