Paul Smith was born was severe spastic cerebral palsy, but he learned from a young age an incredible way to express his passion for art.

Smith began learning how to use the typewriter located in his childhood bedroom, and after teaching himself just 10 symbol keys, he was able to create hundreds of portraits and landscapes that are nothing shy of incredible.

What’s so amazing about Paul is that he is unable to feed and bathe himself, and it is impossible for him to use a brush or a pen, but it comes to a typewriter, he hits the ball out of the park!

Emmy award-winning reporter John Stofflet, interviewed Smith and posted the video of him below saying, “Paul’s movements are severely limited, his determination, endless.”

Paul’s incredible artwork lines the walls of Rose Haven Nursing Center in Oregon, where he has lived for 40 years and created most of his art. Paul considers the staff and the members of the home his family, and for years, he has inspired every person that he came across.

One nursing home employee said, “[Paul] is even more inspiring than his art.” Another said, when people tell Paul, I can never do that,” Paul responds, “What can you do?”

Paul says that his joy in life is finding ways to be creative and that the typewriter gives him something to do. Although he sadly passed at the age of 85 in 2007, his work still remains on the hallways of the home, and Paul inspires everyone who hears his story.
