Toronto is known for a lot of things, but exotic birds is not one of them.

So when Brandon Muir found a gorgeous green parrot knocking on his truck window 50 kilometers Northwest of Toronto, he was more than a little confused. He had heard an unusual fluttering outside his window, and when he turned to look, he saw a beautiful exotic bird looking for help.

Muir says when he opened the door, the bird hopped inside. He assumed the bird was somebody”s lost pet since Parrot’s aren’t often found wandering through Canada. Muir says the bird was friendly and even hopped on the steering wheel. “He seemed extremely content, like, ‘Thanks! Let’s go!’”

Unsure of what to do, the man called an emergency dispatcher who was also more than a little confused. Parrots knocking on truck windows was a call they had not received before. They ended up getting in touch with an Animal Control officer, who directed the rescuer to bring the bird in. Meanwhile, Muir’s wife tracked down a few websites for lost birds on Facebook and found a match.

Thank goodness for technology!

Turns out the little green feathered beauty is a three-year-old female Quaker Parrot named Baby who had escaped out of her owners home in Bolton, Caledon, for the first time in her life three days earlier. The Dedonato family has had her since she was a few months old, and when their youngest son, Roman opened a door, Baby decided that she was going on a grand adventure.

Carol Dedonato explained that while Baby doesn’t often approach strangers, she must have been pretty hungry by the time she found her way to Muir, and she couldn’t be more grateful to him for returning her safely. “It’s amazing the way that it all worked out, [Muir] was at the right place at the right time and someone else might have just shooed her away,” she said. “I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am that he did what he did. Without him, she probably wouldn’t be here today.”
We’re grateful this bird found her way home safely. It looks like she had quite the adventure. Please SHARE this inspiring story of an odd bird with your friends and family!
