Four stray dogs were given a second chance at having a happy life when they were picked up and trained to be “ball dogs” for the Brazil Open.

The strays were rescued from a Sao Paolo animal shelter and given another use. They were tested out during an exhibition tennis match between Carballes Baena (Spain) and Gastao Elias (Portugal).

Frida, Mel, Isabella, and Costela were trained to bring back any stray balls that went flying.

“We want to show that abandoned dogs can be adopted and trained,” Andrea Beckert, a trainer from the Association of Animal Wellbeing, sad to CNN. “After all, it’s not easy to get a dog to only pick up the lost balls, and then to give them up!”

The dogs performed fantastically well, with one catch: it was a little hard to get them to give the balls back after they retrieved them.

But at least the crowd was entertained. Here’s a video of the adorable pooches in action, doing what dogs do best:

We’re just glad there are four less dogs in a shelter today. If you are too, please SHARE with friends and family and make people aware that an old dog CAN learn new tricks. And if you have any thoughts on the subject, don’t forget to tell us in the comments.
