LifeDaily wants to honor the hardworking men and women of the NYPD.

The New York Police Department does the best job they could to keep us safe 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They risk their own lives to protect ours, and literally put it all on the line every day, which makes them extremely selfless.

These officers deserve to be respected, loved, and supported, which is why LifeDaily shares the 10 Reasons Why We Love/Support The NYPD:

1. They are courageous

These men and women of the New York Police Department face endless obstacles on the streets every single day. Sometimes they don’t know what they are about to face when they head into work in the morning or at night, but they go into the day with courage and strength.

2. They are resilient

They see their colleagues, partners, and innocent people involved in crimes pass away very often (unfortunately it is the nature of their job), and they still walk around with their heads held high, ready to go to work and protect the city.

3. They feel a moral duty to protect others

Most police officers have it engrained in them that they have a duty to protect the citizens of their state (which is why they became a police officer in the first place). They go out every single day to fight for their citizens, and they put themselves on the line in the process.

4. They are physically and mentally strong

Police officers are usually the first to respond in the aftermath of a traumatic event, like a car accident, a fire or even a murder. These officers exercise their physical strength by being able to chase down criminals, and their mental strength by being able to deal with, and prepare for seeing grisly and deeply disturbing events.

5. They hold one of the riskiest jobs

Often police officers face the threat of murder as a part of their job, which makes it an extremely risky one. Many riskier jobs such as loggers or fisherman don’t even face this threat.

6. They incur a higher rate of illness and injury than the national average for other jobs

Police officers face potentially dangerous situations every day. They spend a great deal of time working with criminals and dealing with threatening scenarios, and as a result, the possibility of conflicts and physical injuries are high.

7. They hold the lives of others in their hands

This is an extreme amount of responsibility for one person to have, and police officers have this responsibility every single day. Such a grave responsibility requires them to constantly test their sound judgment and have the ability to think on their feet.

8. They are able to kiss goodbye their families everyday, not knowing what the day has in store

While leaving for work has probably become routine for them, in the back of their minds, police officers know the potentially life threatening situations that they can face for the day ahead. They put on a smile for their families, and walk out the door.

9. They’re great at multitasking

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, common duties of a police officer include patrolling designated areas, enforcing laws, answering calls for help, arresting individuals suspected of committing crimes, issuing citations, testifying in court and conducting traffic stops, and completing reports regarding incidents.

10. They keep their heads held high

Despite all of the noise, the news, the press, the media, and the constant ridicule, police officers still keep their heads held high, and have the stamina and the strength to go to work and protect their city.
