When Stephen Simmons went to serve his country, the last thing he was expecting was to become depressed and to suffer from acute PTSD. However, such is the nature of the beast, and anybody going to war with their military should be aware of the possible outcomes. Having joined the army in 1986, Simmons, from Oregon, Simmons was deployed to Iraq, returning home in 2008. But for Stephen, the things he had seen and experienced in Iraq were gruesome, and left him with a debilitating case of PTSD, anxiety and depression. His friend and therapist, Chris Fadness, told reporters that to his mind Stephen’s PTSD was very much a case of a ‘biological function’ and that “Adventure therapy” was his best bet to return back to being a normal member of society. At first Simmons lived out of his Jeep in the mountains near to his home, along with his trusty and beloved service dog, Puppi.
