[Facebook]Gainesville, Florida mom Annie Ferguson Muscato learned this hard way when she had an awkward run-in while shopping for her 2-month-old daughter. In an emotional open letter that has gone viral since being posted to Facebook, Annie explains how a complete stranger gave her some unsolicited and unappreciated parenting tips when she bought baby formula at her local Target.
[Facebook]In the post below, Annie says she didn’t need to hear from the stranger that “breast is best,” she had already tried everything with newborn Ellie Jo and it wasn’t going well.
“Let me tell you what else I know,” she wrote. “I know that my baby began screaming after she ate. Writhing in pain. Inconsolable…I know I have held my child, my baby, while she screamed for hours- one day for eight hours straight.”
[Facebook]The mom explains that she tried changing her diet, has brought her daughter to the pediatrician twice a week since birth, and has pumped hundreds of ounces of breast milk, just in case her baby will need it. She then says Ellie Jo tried the hypoallergenic dairy protein free formula the woman saw her buying, “and the screaming lessened. And my baby started smiling. She started interacting. She started sleeping.”
[Facebook]“And I cried,” Annie wrote. “Because I thought breast was best. I thought my body failed her. I thought she wouldn’t be as healthy on formula.” But the truth is that just like every pregnant woman’s body is different, so is every newborn and breast simply isn’t always best. “I know happy, healthy baby is best. I know FED is best.”
