Two kittens, who have since been appropriately named Shrek and Smurf were recently found feeling blue and covered in what appeared to be permanent marker.

Police rescued the tiny animals from a rundown property and brought them into Bradford Cat Watch Rescue Kittens. Katie Jane, the owner of the kitten sanctuary, said that volunteers and employees have seen all kinds of strange rescue situations, but nobody had ever seen anything quite like this.

The two animals appeared to have permanent marker on them and getting it off was a challenge for the shelter.

Once the little babies were taken in, they were given multiple baths and all the love they deserved. The shelter made progress, though not all the marker came off. That will take some time.

Neither the police nor the rescuers seemed to know why the little tykes were covered in permanent marker, though it may have been the work of a small child.

Regardless, we are happy to hear these guys are back in safe hands and warm homes, and we hope they are feeling a little less blue. If you found this story as heartbreaking and uplifting as we did, the please SHARE with friends and family on Facebook.
