If he asks you to sign a prenuptial, do you run?

Spurned bride and Corporate Vice President at New York Life Insurance Yiru Sun felt like it was an unfair requirement when her husband-to-be asked for the contract. And when he called off the wedding as a result, she paid it forward by hosting a luncheon for 60 needy children from New York.

The couple had been planning on hosting the ceremony at the elegant Harold Pratt House on Park Ave, and they had already set down an $8,000 deposit.

Unable to get that money back, Sun decided she might as well pay it forward. Talk about turning lemons into lemonade. “I should have been the bride. It was canceled,” Sun told her guests at the elegant banquet. “Initially I felt frustrated,” Sun told New York Post, while refusing to dish about her former betrothed, including even admitting his name.

“I don’t want to sign things I don’t feel comfortable with,” was simply all she said regarding the proposed arrangement.

“Three weeks later, I woke up with this idea,” Sun said. She herself is a single mom of a 6-year-old daughter. The idea was to invite guests who were choosen with help from The Salvation Army and Inwood House.

“At that moment, I started to think it was God’s plan,” she said of turning her misfortune into a great party.

“I cannot be the princess of my wedding day, but I can give the kids a fairy tale.”
