A few months ago, I lost a friend and I haven’t been the same since.
She wasn’t my best friend and I hadn’t known her for more than 5 months when she passed. But, she was a new friend and a good friend. We bonded quickly, drank coffee together in cafes, and always gossiped about boys. From time to time, we would laugh at life while we sipped beer, flirted with the bartender, and planned cross-country road trips.
She loved life and that love was infectious.
When I heard the news that she had died, I couldn’t look at life the same way after. Suddenly, the world was a little less bright knowing she wasn’t in it.
And in a lot of ways, it was more bright. She inspired me to tackle life with a new kind of vigor. Life is short and we shouldn’t cry because it’s ending, but sing because it’s happening.
When I came across the story today of Becky Nielson, a waitress in New York, I was once again reminded of the importance of living each day like it’s your last.
Becky works long hours at The Breakfast Spot, a little place in Cohoes, New York:
During a shift this week, Becky received an extremely generous and unexpected tip from her table. The patron left a life lesson on their receipt reminding Becky that life is too short to not enjoy it.
