If your thesis project wins more than 50 awards, does that mean you get an A in the class?
That’s what happened with ‘The Present,’ an award-winning animated short about a boy and his dog based on a comic strip by Fabio Coala, and directed by Jacob Frey.
The animated short comes from the Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany and is breaking hearts everywhere. If you can get through this clip without crying, you might be a robot.
The simple story follows a rude boy who sits on the couch playing video games. His Mom walks in the door carrying a box, but he ignores her as he goes about his game. It’s an opening we can all relate to:
Rather than taking pity on the creature, the child is annoyed and dismisses it while he turns his attention back toward his video games:

What happens next will leave you in tears. It’s as sad as it is heartwarming and I can’t stop smiling.
