Fit Mom’s Crib Workout Causes Controversy

Melanie Darnell, aka fitmomma4two on Instagram, is known for posting videos of herself working out alongside her two young children. 

Darnell recently posted a video of herself practicing strength training in the frame of her 2-year-old daughter Sage’s crib, and it has caused an uproar across the internet. 

This fit mom is shown directly overhead her toddler, kicking her legs and doing side planks.

While Darnell received some pretty harsh comments from people concerned for the baby’s safety, she has a background in gymnastics and years of practice in yoga in reformer pilates, so she definitely knows what she’s doing. “Like any sane person, both my husband and I checked the strength and sturdiness of the crib before I climbed on top of it,” Darnell tells Scary Mommy.

“I would not have performed these exercises if I thought there was a chance of me falling on my child. Everyone has abilities they feel confident with, I know what I can and cannot perform safely, ” she continued.

But the harsh comments did affect this fit mom as Darnell describes: “Being called a bad mom is the worst,” she says. “I would never put my child in danger.”

Despite those who claim otherwise, Darnell’s intention when posting her workout videos isn’t to gain internet fame, but instead to inspire and support moms who struggle to find the time for exercise.

Getting a Sunday afternoon workout in while Sage was still napping. All you need for this on is a yoga mat and a weight. “I don’t do these videos for likes, as some haters claimed, but to inspire and motivate others to live an active and healthy lifestyle even after becoming a parent. Not everyone has the luxury of going to the gym and sometimes working out with your kids is the only option,” says Darnell.
