Heroic Student Tackles School Shooter, Wrestling Away Gun And Saving Lives

In the wake of the tragic Orlando shootings, the United States is grieving for all the lives lost.

However, one uplifting video just came to light that can inspire and raise spirits among all the negativity that surrounds us in these troubled times.

In 2014, a gunman came into Seattle Pacific University, killing one person and injuring two others. However, the attack could have been so much worse. Thanks to student Jon Meis, the gunman was stopped in his tracks when Meis bravely tackled the gunman.

The incident was caught on tape thanks to a nearby security camera and King County Prosecutor’s Office released the footage on Tuesday.

We don’t know if Meis acted on instinct thatday or if he had some training. But there is no doubt he saved lives.

Meis is a student safety monitor, but on this particular day, he went way above and beyond the necessary call of duty. As the gunman enters the building and stops to reload the gun, Meis comes around the corner equipped with nothing but pepper spray and adrenaline.

Meis then sprays the gunman in the face, tackles him to the floor, wrestles the shotgun from his hands, and runs away with the weapon.

Police say at that point, the gunman, identified as Aaron Ybarra, fumbles with a hunting knife. A few moments later, Meis returns, jumps on the gunman and holds him until help arrives.

Meis was recognized by the school for his heroism. Ybarra’s trial is set to begin in September for first-degree murder and other charges.
